Bought this camera in 2011 and it is still going strong in 2015.
My 1D mark III is older and still works fine. No need to get caught up with changing out gear every two years unless able to do so.

Canon 7D

I shot another brand forever. I was tired of the poor pictures on the sidelines of the high school football games. A Canon seemed to be a favorite of the photographers around me. I read that the 7D was the best choice in the mid price range to accomplish this task. I purchased the 7D. I soon found out that the kit lenses did not work for me on the sidelines. I invested in a faster f2.8 lens. After a year of shooting Friday night football with this new set up, I found that even though I was getting some ok pictures, most of them were very grainy or noisy under the poor lighting conditions at most high schools.. I still did not have the equipment to get quality shots at low light sports action. This prevented me from getting a part time job shooting sports for a website. The 7D is an excellent overall camera, but don't expect to get quality pictures at low light fast action sporting events. I am looking at the newer Canon 7D Mark ll. It just might be what I need to reach my goals.

Poor Image Quality - Poor Focusing - Soft Focus

I concur with so many others in complete dissatisfaction of the performance of the 7D. I've had Canon products since the 1980's and owning this one is enough to make me switch brands. It is very rare that I get a crisp image with this camera. My best shots are very soft. Editing software helps some but most are even beyond help there. I wish Canon would own up to the problem and put out a fix for it. I have to believe they could offer a firmware fix but they must first accept the problem. I almost bought a 60D when I moved up from my T3i but wasted the extra money on the 7D - what a disappointment. This Missouri Boy says "Show us a fix Canon"

Great first DSLR

I wanted to learn how to use a camera. Not just use auto and click. I've had this fabulous product for more than 2 years. It'll be three by the end of December. This camera has so many different options. The quality of the image (once you know how to actually use the camera) is PERFECT. This camera is NOT for someone who is just planning on using auto, in my opinion no DSLR is. The only downfall for me is it is a crop sensor, so when using my 50mm it is difficult for family photos. But other than that, loving my Canon EOS 7D!!

So far I have really enjoyed my Canon 7 D. I've never owned a SLS point and shoot camera so I'm learning a lot. The automatic feature helps right off the bat. And when I film, I get some really crisp shots. Thanks Canon.

Worst purchase ever

As a pro how can you use a camera that will give you about a 35% in focus, and some times even less. I got it as a second body and is a piece of junk..Many photo shoots ruened..All I can say to anyone setting tobuy this camera a a sencond camera you would be better off buying a power shot
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Dim LCD, Shaky operation, Poor image quality, noisy, Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Camera

First, I love this camera. I mostly do surf photography, so this camera is the best way the spend your money. very solid camera, There is no need to baby this camera, but you should still try to take care of it. The 19 AF points guarantees that your photo will always be if focus. The only problem I had was the serial number on the bottom smear, and eventually making it illegible. If this has happened to anybody please let me know how you fixed this problem. Can I send it to canon to reprint it and seal it properly?

Excellent camera

While researching which DSLR to purchase (finally moving on from film!) I came across the 7D and decided that it was a good option for me. Why?
It's built well. I have a tendency to destroy things and this camera is (mostly) me-proof. The metal construction and weather sealing have certainly spared this camera from certain death.
The 8FPS birst and focus modes make wildlife photography a lot easy. Of course, I was used to film and manual focus...
The interface is intuitive and works well. The ability to customize the menu system with most-used features is handy, too.
It's not perfect, of course. It's a bit heavy for some and it's not a full-frame sensor. Over-all, though, I'm very happy with this camera.
Pros: Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
