Buy It For The Speed, Keep It For The Quality...

Fantastic Camera, Tremendous speed. I have been a long time Canon shooter and this purchase for me takes the cake. I love the Auto focus performance especially in AI Servo mode. Being a fitness photographer I tend to need a fast shutter and even in lower light settings with a 2.8 lens the 7D still shines.
The write speeds of the Dual Digic 4 Procs are very noticeable when combined with UDMA cards its a combo that cannot be beaten. Its the perfect body for those that cannot afford nor need a Full Frame like the 5D mkII. Its a bit pricey, but you get over the sticker shock real quick when you start to shoot with it.
This pro is very impressed with a tremendous camera!

Excellent SLR Camera

Purchased EOS 7D in Hong Kong China, in May 2010 Toured Mainland China and took many pictures out of the box with very little experiance on Digital SLR but had great Pictures most of the time anyway! I didn't realize my instruction manuals were in Japanese until I got back to my hotel on the day of purchase. So I downloaded all the info for the Camera from Cannon's website. I have been learning more as time goes by. I had a SLR Camera in the late 70's so I'm more of a intermediate hobby photographer. This unit has many, many, features and I have a lot to learn yet but these are the best pictures I've ever taken. I've had this camera in aircraft, on ships and boats, near mist from water falls and have had no physical / mechanical problems. If you are not already well versed on digital photography, plan on hitting the books if you want to take advantage of what this camera has to offer.

Excellent Compromise

I have taken a few hundred thousand pictures with this body -- mostly sports action. I like it a lot. The focus point groupings is a function I don't know how I lived without. It really allows me a lot of compositional freedom that is lacking with a single auto focus point. High ISO performance is pretty good and I regularly shoot at 6400 ISO. If you shoot at high ISO, shoot RAW format. Tremendous noise reduction benefit.

great camera for the money

could have spent more money but this is the best camera for what I shoot. We live in our RV fulltime and travel all over including Mexico. Needed to upgrade my G-10 and get a DSLR . I keep an ongoing photo journal on Face Book for friends and family was limited with the point and shoot. This camera allows me , with the lenes I bought to get the shots I want at the quality I demand. A little heavy but I can live with that. The idiot proof controls and ease of use, speed etc make this a great buy

A Work Horse

I bought the 7D shortly after the first firmware upgrade, being used to the 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D & 50D it took me a while to get used to and really understand the focusing system which is by far much superior than the ones mentioned before.
I find the quality to be fantastic and a robust build without having a giant in your hands while maintaining a pro feeling.
It's been over a year since I bought it and still keep finding more custom functions that spoil me more than the one I discover before.
One important thing you must use this baby with a pro L series glass if you really want to know what you can get out of it.
While it is not a full frame sensor camera remember it is the APS-C high end top of the line, Is it worth going from a 50D to a 7D......... don't let anybody fool you, the answer is YES!
Overall after all this time, still I can't get enough of my 7D
I recommend this product to a fiend!!

The 7D rocks

I have had 3 canon cameras in my life. Ellan II E, the XT,and now the 7D. Wasnt sure what to think when I got it, but I must say I was blown away. The 7D is like the race car of the canon DSLR's. The frame rate is very fast and the AF system is just a joy to use. The jump from the other two cameras are just stunning. The 3 inch LCD is like looking at a high end TV. There was a bit of a learning curve, but like anything else time and learning from your mistakes will over come that. Over all I really can not say anything bad about the 7D other then I wish I had it sooner then I did. I think the thing I like most about the 7D is that you can take 1080 HD video and the live veiw mode works great. But the speed is break neck quick. Thanks canon., great job.

Great Camera

Upgraded from a 350D and love the larger LCD , the true view viewfinder and the image quality. Pro's for me are the 19 focus points and the con's would be the 19 focus points. I got it from AAFES with a 25% discount so the price was a plus for me. Coupled with an "L" lens the pictures are awesome if not really large. We can no longer e-mail pictures because of the size but have to use a host for them. Not a bad problem to have. I have a 270EX flash because the 580EXII is way too expensive for us normal people.

Manual shortcomings

I graduated from a 20D to a 7D, so I am not a total novice. Neither the manual that comes with the 7D, nor the online duplicate manual thoroughly explains the submenus. To learn about these, you must pour through reviewers, online help, and ask your fellow club members.
Can't you take a knowledgeable employee, lock them in a room to write a thorough explanation of each 'thing" the camera can do....and then (important) have an outside editor read it and tie up loose ends?
