Tricky at First.

Superb camera. I use it primarily for shooting fine art photography and it is simply amazing. Amazing that is when shooting in full manual mode and paying attention to the focus points. Outside of full manual its pretty good for a non professional. To get the best out this camera you have to understand and use the full range of manual features. All in all it serves my needs perfectly. Would highly recomend it.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, not for non-professionals

Cajuns 7D

Hello I'am Cajun, I have nothing but good to say about my New Canon EOS 7D. I shoot everyday and have not had any problems with my camera. In just over two months I have shot 12,000 plus images and remain error/problem free. I shoot mostly Manual Mode and love it. I had a slight Flash issue where a shadow was being cast by my Lens Hood but have corrected that by using a flash modifier to fill the shadow. If you decide on the 7D then be sure to read the owners manual page by page with you camera in hand to learn about all the cool features. Have fun and good luck shooting. Cajun
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: neck strap is a little on the short side for me

Best crop frame camera available!

I have used many DSLR cameras from several makers and the Canon 7D is by far the best I have ever used. Great exposures and color renditions. Well built, fast and quiet. The 18mp sensor is great and noise is well controlled but do your self a favor and put good glass in front of it. It may not be the most current camera on the market, but it is the best!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great upgrade

I have own Canon cameras for almost 50 years and have always enjoyed the sturdy metal body cameras. While I have own a few of the Digital Rebels with plastic body, I must say that the 7D is a welcome upgrade. While 7D is a heavier camera, especially when my 18-200 zoom is mated with the 7D, than the Digital Rebels, I get accustomed to extra weight. I love the features of the camera, the 3" viewfinder with the near 100% and the cross type 19 point auto focus system. I am sure that others who own this camera may be less enthused over this camera, but, without going into more details, suffice to say, I love this camera as much as I did my old Canon F1.
Pros: Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, easy to use

Amazing Image Quality!

When I first heard about the 7D with it's fast 8 fps, I was sold. However, I was concerned about image quality since it's an APS-C and not full frame. I was relieved to see that the IQ is excellent with great contrast, color, and no noise. Focusing was fast and accurate.
I am mostly a landscape and cityscape shooter. My 7D is always on a tripod when I shoot. And I use a remote shutter release. Every shot turns out sharp. Of course, I shoot at ISO 100 since I am on a tripod. Therefore, noise is not an issue, even long exposure shots.
And when I need to shoot wildlife and birds on rare occasions, the 7D focused fast and accurately.
The only issue I have is that I shoot multiple exposures for HDR. And I think Canon should update its firmware to allow for more than 3 AEB exposures without me having to touch the camera to dial for other set of exposures. And HDR mode would be nice, too.
Other than that, it's an excellent camera with excellent IQ and build.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, no hdr mode, only 3 aeb exposures

Focus, Soft Focus and OOF and exposure

My 7D with the 17-55mm 2.8 has oof and soft focus issues I can't correct with MA. The same goes with the 50mm 1.8. Ever with single point of fofuc with mirror up on tripod with a lot of light from 2.8 to 10.0 and above I just can't get the 7D to be tack sharp. If you do get a good shot you have to post with so much sharpness that other aspects are thrown off. Using multi point focus there is so much front and back focus that MA is usless. The 7D is not for pro's as how could I get such a bad copy with bad glass too??? If you google "7D Defective Focus Issues" it's amazing how many people are YELLING! Canon... you can do better than this! Make us whole. Please tell us how to fix these defective 7D's
Cons: out of focus, soft focus, exposure
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
