Terrible!

The design inhibits a full 180 with lens obstructions on both sides - terrible for many uses of a 180. The requirement to pay a subscription for software to work with the images after already buying the camera is outrageous. And the software is also terribly designed, making it very hard to adapt the images, particularly the photographic ones, for diverse uses. The interaction with Adobe is also remarkably limited and poor. As a Canon user over many generations of cameras and lenses, this lens ranks as a lowest point.

It has potential

This lens offers a relatively affordable way of getting into the VR world. The idea is good but the execution is lacking.
- For some unknown reason the lens requires calibration. I'm not sure why it was so hard to have the left and right lenses always in sync?
- 60 mm IPD. Why not the standard 64?
- The VR utility produces files without special metadata required for Apple Vision Pro. Why? The only way to view the exported videos on AVP is via 3rd party video players.
- The lens exhibits a moderate amount of CA.
- The cheaper APS-C variant offers initial AF, but this lens doesn't.
- Missing a VR conversion plugin for DaVinci Resolve. Who's using Adobe Premiere in 2024??? Adobe is a joke, not for serious editing.
- For another unknown reason Canon is using a 3rd party to process the VR utility subscriptions. I bet the subscription could be cheaper if no 3rd party would be involved.
Overall, the lens is ok but as a product as a whole it is half baked. Luckily the software-related problems can be fixed, but I don't see any movement from Canon yet.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Desperately Seeking Apple Vision Pro Support

This is the perfect lens for taking stills and Movies for viewing on the Apple Vision Pro. Or it would be if the Canon software offered output to a file format that was compatible with the Vision Pro along with instructions.
