I love everything about this camera. Almost. Two requests: when set for 4k or 120fps video, can you force the camera to the CFast card? Pulling a card out will reset the camera to the CF slot. Then the 4k is only 1080 on the CF, or it craps out and while the camera is on my Ronin, I am unaware. :-( Provide some warning message OR a menu option to control this. Also, WiFi will be finicky when reconnecting to my iPad (which is dedicated only to the Canon wifi) when the camera gets powered off momentarily for battery change or lens or card... time consuming and annoying on set. The app and wifi should just reconnect, like every other WiFi. Otherwise, a perfect beast. Image quality, both still and video, is astounding.
I've had it for a little over 3 weeks now, having recently returned from a trip to Arches and Grand Canyon National Parks. With the 1Dx ii, I also bought the latest versions of the L lenses, 24-70 2.8/f and the 70-200 2.8L IS. Absolutely phenomenal performance. My previous Canons were the 20D, and the 7D. Semi-retired, I would say I'm an "advanced amateur," and am sharing my passion for Canon cameras with one of my daughters and one of my grandsons. I could not enjoy this camera more!
A. Potential defective paint, using the Canon Strap, around my neck, walking around Comic Con for 3-4 hrs, the paint is fading after 3-4 hours contact with my Cotton Shirt from Polo, unfortunately I won't be allow to post picture or link to the picture. 1DX Mark II owner please report if there is similar problem to ensure a better product in the future.
B. Soft focus at F2.8 to F4 using 70-200mm IS II 2.8 lens. I wiill need to use the Micro Adjustment for the lens.
C. Silent Continuous Shoot Mode and Hi Speed Sync on TTL Flash, it is hit or miss, either perfect, dark or too bright.
D. F8 to F11 on 24-70mm 2.8 II, I have a hard time to focus on couples during Sunset Conditions.
E. I can't open the RAW CR2 file with my cs6, will need to use DNG converter or yealy CC.
I strongly recommend fashion photographer and wedding photographer test out the Silent Shoot Mode with Flash/Hi Speed SYNC and Auto Focus during low light or Sun Set conditions.
I am current owned: Canon 1DX MkII, Canon 5D Mk III, Canon Rebel, and other Flagship non Canon.
First I want to say I am an amateur photography enthusiast and I was gifted this camera for my Birthday. I previously used the wonderful Canon T6s and I must say that although I was a bit intimidated making the switch, the upgrade was painless. I've learned to use this camera very quickly and I could not recommend it enough. If you can afford it, buy it! You won't be sorry. It's got an amazing auto-focus system and really takes advantage of all of Canon's EF lenses. I paired it with two 'L' lenses and I was blown away! I travel frequently and although it is much larger than entry-level DSLRs, I have no problem carrying it everywhere I go. If you're looking for the best, here it is.
I'm a small company (wife and I) and i purchased this mainly for its frame rate in video and the quality the images produce as well. First impressions are that the menus need to be looked at. there is a lag in moving through the different options that neith of my C100's or my 5D3 have. The 4k footage and the 120fps is incredible and the camera was easy to pick up and use right out of the box. Also the cFast port is a DEDICATED 2.0 port. you can NOT use 2 Standard CF Cards. just one of each type.
Waited over a month for the Navy Exchange to get it in and it has been WELL worth the wait. Most of my shooting so far has been in my backyard with my various L lens (only had it 2 days). Have not really played with the video other than the auto focusing and face tracking. That alone is enough to get me motivated to shoot more video.
My last 1 series body was the 1Ds Mark II...this was an upgrade from my 5D Mark III. Performance is EVERYTHING you would expect from 1 series.
The focusing is fast and so is the shutter release. Every image with every lens has been tack sharp. Even my 24-105mm f/4 images are tack sharp AT f/4!
Color rendering is amazing and really pops. Images at iso 25600 are really nice, especially when processed with DPP (although great results from LR/ACR).
Looking forward to my first photo session with a model. Then I'm hitting up some of my other favorite spots here on Oahu, HI.
I've been a Canon Shooter since 1981. If this is the last body I buy (promise to my wife), I will be very happy.
