I seriously considered the shorter 64-oz and even the stainless steel one, but have used my Vitamix for almost 10 years and knew I already loved the original. Stuck with it and am very happy. No clouding yet, but since it doesn't sit on my counter all the time anyway, I don't really even mind.

I bought a replacement container recently as the one I had been using came to the end of it's life which surprised me at the time as I thought they ere meant to last forever! The new one seems to be an improvement on the old one and is working very well.

carafe exploded!

i have my Vitamix for 4-5 years and have been happy with it. today, i was making vegetable and fruit smoothie when the carafe exploded. a 1 1/2 inch section of the wall of the carafe spontaneously exploded, and the blades expelled the semi blended smoothie onto everywhere in the kitchen. i had to use one hand to clean the spill and the other hand to keep my two dogs away, as they were licking the floor, and shards of the broken carafe was all over the place. i think such an expensive piece of equipment should not have such a defect.

This container is great. I replaced one that was ~8 years old which I used a lot, but honestly it is tough to spend so much to replace the container. I have other appliances like my food processor that is 20+ years old and the plastic container is still going strong.
