Bought this because we were working with a large amount of leaves and wanted them shredded to use as compost on a garden. We would vacuum and shred. Emptying the bag was pretty easy. Just unzip the bag and shake. Everything worked well at first. The impeller shredded the leaves into fine pieces. After about 10 bags of leaves, we noticed that it wasn't shredding as well. The more we did, the worse it got, until the leaves were no longer being shredded at all. Checked everything starting with the impeller, which was fine. We finally figured out that the inlet in the top of the bag had been damaged. It appears that the bag is designed in such a way as to hold the leaves in the impeller area for a period of time to grind them up. Once that part of the bag is damaged, the leaves will just blow into the bag without shredding. If the bag is going to tear that easily, and if that tear affects the shredding ability, this unit is no good for us.
Cons: poor interior bag design

Best blower/vacuum for the money

I've had this Toro blower/vacuum for two years now. For the money it has no equal as far as I'm concerned. The steel impeller is a huge plus, don't buy any blower/vacuum without it. The overall durability of this unit is outstanding so far. Should the need arise for parts, Toro's website is hard to beat for quality replacement parts for your unit. This is an easy 5 stars.
Pros: steel impeller

The Ultra Blower is a Very Good Product Except for the Bag

I have been using my Ultra Blower for many years and have been quite happy with it except for the bag. (Note: the Ultra Blower has a metal impeller, the Super Blower has a plastic impeller - you don't want a plastic impeller.) Now I have gone through many bags, about one per year, because the zipper fails. If you complain about it, Toro will accuse you of dragging the bag. One other note, if you buy this blower and the bag fails, do not throw it away. You will need its plastic collar for a new bag - Toro seems to have stopped including them with the replacement bags.

Leaves constantly get stuck

I had high hopes for this due to the metal impeller but after several uses it's absolutely useless now. Leaves are constantly getting stuck in the tube before reaching the shredder. Doesnt matter if they're dry or wet. Couple leaves at a time or a handful. They get stuck and I have to keep turning it off to clean the clog.
Response from ToroDealer.comBy The Toro Company, Toro Customer Care, January 21, 2022
Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry to hear you are having issues with the leaves getting stuck in the tube. We recommend vacuuming only dry leaves and soft items. Do not force the vacuum tube into a pile of debris or hold the tube upright while force feeding debris into the tube. Either action may clog and damage the impeller. If you find that these tips do not help, your machine has a 2 year warranty that protects against all manufacturing defects. You can contact an Authorized Service Dealer at Toro.com/locator. A dealer can inspect, repair and/or replace your machine if necessary.

It seems odd that this one says it has 250 mph speed at full speed but doesn't seem still as powerful as my old 195 mph. (different brand) I need electric corded for the weight of Blower since I am a woman with some shoulder issues. I don't know that I will use the vac part, I never did on the old one but need more powerful blower for pine needles to blow off screen enclosure. This one does. Getting use to the variable speed. Other blower had slow and high switch which again because I was accustomed to I liked better but I'm happy with the purchase and hope it last as long as my old one did. Motor didn't wear out, I dropped it. This seems like the same kind of plastic so be careful.

I got this model because of the vacuum/mulching feature to clean up the leaves that collect on the front porch where blowing them isn't practical It does a great job getting the leaves out of flower beds to. I have only used it as a vacuum couple times for about total of 1 1/2 hours works great only thing I can find wrong is it is a little on the heavy side especially when the bag gets full and it will hold a lot. I also like the variable speed control knob better than a trigger control, If you have areas that collects leaves where a blower doesn't work well like window wells, flower beds ect. this will do the job, has lots of suction at higher speeds. I haven't used it on blower mode as I have a cordless blower for that before I got this. Wish it were battery powered but I just use it around the house so cord works ok for me. I would buy it again if I need to.
