Waste of money

I bought this for my son for a Christmas gift and he was so excited to use it. He measured the kernels, added them in, and turned the machine on. It got hot and was loud and started spinning, which i assumed was the correct process. After a minute of that, it completely stopped and there was no popcorn! All the kernels were still in the metal part of the machine. I shut it off and unplugged it and waited about 20 minutes then tried again. Nothing happened; no heat, no noise, no spinning, nothing. My husband even took it apart to see if something wasn't right, but he found nothing wrong. I am so bummed out that this is going in the trash.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
