I loved the T980 and I chose the QT4070/71 as it was the successor. The door clasp broke and now when I shave, hair goes everywhere, everything else is fine with the razor. I am disappointed and have to decide if, after being a long term customer, I should purchase a different brand.
Pros: it does a very good job
Cons: door doesn't stay closed; hair goes everywhere
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Broken Door Latch

The small clip that keeps the door latch closed broke, just like it did to countless others in these reviews. They don't have a replacement part either, so once it breaks you're stuck with it. The warranty won't help you. I've used Philips beard trimmers for over 10 years and I've had really good luck with them, but I wouldn't recommend this model.
Cons: the door latch will break

Loose door

A couple months after I bought this, the hair-collection compartment door became loose and started randomly opening while I was shaving, sending hairs on to the counter and floor. Philips kindly replaced the defective shaver.
The replacement lasted much longer, but now the compartment door is loose again and sending hairs back to the counter and floor...and the unit is out of warranty. It's a design defect, and based on my experience and that of other reviewers, it'll probably happen to you too.
Time for that rubber band my asparagus-eating colleague recommends below...

We’re sorry to hear you’ve had a disappointing experience with our Philips Norelco Beardtrimmer. For such instance we would recommend you that you contact our local Consumer Care by accessing the following link: http://bit.ly/1hEtQGa. Thanks.
This product is no where near the previous trimmer I replaced.

If I had any idea this trimmer would be as bad as it is I wouldn't have touched it with a 10 foot pole. My broken Acu-Control T900 is better broken than this one is new.
Pros: it's shiny.
Cons: the vacuum glogs at the drop of a hat., turbo boost has to be use to trim the first time., no edging capability.
Trimmer length adjustment broke within first week.

Trimmer length adjustment broke within first week of use, can be used only as an electric shaver -- in other words, useless.

May be great for someone else, just not me.

I had the older version of this product and it needed to be replaced, so when they came out with this new version of the Philips vacuum beard trimmer I went out and bought it. The problem was that the new trimmer was not the same as the older one. The older version cut hair a lot shorter than the new trimmer. This was a big problem for me. Everything else on the new trimmer was great, looked and worked well. However, because of this small change (not being able to cut hair as short) I wish that I would have never bought the razor and could some way take it back
