The speaker setup voice could be heard, but no audio for the TV would come through either via Bluetooth or the audio cables.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought 2, because they are light weight and I can use them with bluetooth or connect to my older TV's with audio cables or an optical cable. So nice! Has a very nice sound too!

Great sound. Used for music in our kitchen. Don’t like that there is no way to turn down the volume each time it says “Power On” or “Power Off”. Otherwise very happy with how it works.

Works for what you need

I bought this sound bar since the volume on our TV does not increase to the level needed since it is a good 10-15 feet away from the viewing area. It definitely enhances the overall volume and at such a reasonable price, I can't argue with the quality. It does exactly as I expect it to.
