I have owned a Regal 490 for 13 years which came with actual cast iron grids. Initially I seasoned them with actual pork lard which is best obtained from hispanic grocery store. NOT VEGETABLE OIL. Prior to cooking apply a lite coat and again after. If not coated after, some of the lard will have burned off the surface, if cooking too hot. If it is not seasoned after cooking as such, IT WILL RUST WHERE THE LARD BURNED OFF. Simply wire brush and season again. At 10 years, I replaced all of the internal burners. etc, and cast iron grids. The same happens if you do not take care of a cast iron skillet. No to my question: My 13 year old Regal 490 blue over last week in 87 MPH winds from wind. Outside, not a scratch. Inside was destroyed, firebox, burners, all stainless steel. Grids survived. I am looking to buy another Regal S 490 or S 590 Pro. I called regal and talked to Cust Svs. I was told they both came with cast iron grids. However, all literature states the grids are stainless steel. One placed mentioned cast aluminum. Can I get cast iron WITHOUT porcelen with the Regal Grill ?

Thanks for your review. We're thrilled to hear how much you've enjoyed your Broil King Regal 490 over the past 13 years. Our new line of Broil King Regal grills include stainless steel grids, but cast iron and cast stainless grids are also sold separately. Please contact your local retailer for more information. Thanks again: we're proud to have you as part of the Broil King Family. Happy Grilling!
This is one of a handful of reviews I’ve ever written but i feel compelled. I‘ve had my Broil King Baron BBQ for some time now but I can count the number of times I’ve used it thanks to these awful cast iron grids that rust and chip no matter how well you care for them. I’m on my second set of grids and these rusted even worst than the first. It’s such a shame because I like the BBQ itself but the grids are so badly rusted and chipped that it renders the BBQ useless. I’ve had to use trays and tins to bbq to avoid being poisoned by the rust. There’s no way I’m buying another set of grids. At this point I’ll probably just replace it with a Webber or another more reliable brand.
I have been buying broil king bbqs for over 30 years and have had grill problems many times regardless of treating the grill as recommended even using avocado oil regularly but the last two replacement grills I have bought have rusted out big time fast .Rust big time ,chipping etc . I am now afraid to use these and poisoning people .I love the bbq but this recurring problem is giving me second thoughts on buying a broil king product again .we love the way it cooks and the grill marks are superb but the rust spoils the joy of barbecuing. I would add pictures but that would scare people from buying your products .just so you know I have never written a review on anything in my life but enough is enough . Loyal customer, maybe not anymore depending on your response

We bought replacement grids in August 2018, we cleaned and coated just like you say however alot of rust and chipping. What is our best to do we love the BBQ itself, sales order #1668469 we have the Regal 590 Pro
Extremely disappointed with the grills. I maintained the grills as required and after two years they started rusting and began chipping. It's unsafe to grill anything on the porcelain grills as the porcelain will get in your food. Broil King needs to replace all their BBQ's with stainless steel grills immediately.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you experience deterioration with your cast iron grids. We stand behind the superior quality of all OMC products. All OMC cast iron grids do require regular maintenance and seasoning to keep them in pristine condition. Seasoning with a cooking oil of a high smoking point such as avocado oil, rice bran oil, and canola oil creates a non-stick cooking surface and preserves the porcelain-enameled finish. Thoroughly brushing the grids before and after use will help eliminate the possibility of residue build up, which can flake off in pieces from the grids. Grill care guides and genuine OMC replacement parts are available through our knowledgeable customer support team. We can be reached at 1-800-265-2150
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had to replace my cooking grids. Got the cast iron ones like the ones that came with the grill. Love them. The heat quickly and are easy to clean. Broil king is awesome.
These grill plates rust terribly. Huge flakes come off into the food. I regularly clean and season them. Would love to hear a solution but unfortunately I would not recommend this due to the rust issues. It’s a shame because everything else about the grill is great.
