My family and I moved into our 2800 square foot house in Minnesota almost two years ago. The filter that was in the furnace was not a 3M Filtrete filter and it was disgusting. I bought this product because it was the only filter of this size offered at the store where I bought it. I thought it would be a good deal considering it said that it would last up to 12 months. I'm no dummy, I know that when something says that it'll last up to any amount of time, that time should be cut in half under "normal" Minnesota conditions. Cutting to the chase, this product doesn't even last 3 months, and that's in the fall when the furnace fan never runs! We even had our ducts cleaned before installing our last filter. The product definitely works because of all the "stuff" trapped in it, but for a product to have a label on it stating that it will last up to 12 months, it should at least last 6 month in Minnesota conditions. I would recommend this product to anyone, however I would have to warn them about the replacement period being so frequent.

Making a Change in 2011

Finally found a filter to fit the huge furnace currently outfitted for "electromagnet" filtering. Because I don't use this type of system, I wanted a high quality air filter and Filtrete met the criteria. This is the second filter for me and I love the ease of installing.
One question: I am an avid recycler and not sure how to recycle my used filters. Any thoughts?

A great investment

Our HVAC was installed over 8 years ago. We change the filter every 6 months at during our spring/fall checkups.
During a recent home inspection for our refinancing. The inspector asked did we recently change the airvents and ducts?

Best Filter on the Market!!!

I HAVE searched and cannot find a better filter than Filtrete. Not only does it make a noticeable difference in the air quality of our home, it has literally saved our HVAC unit. As do most new construction homes, ours came with the standard 'builder grade' system. Coincidentally, we have had a lot of storms and power surges this past summer. When our system (along with seven others in our neighborhood) burnt out last month, we were miraculously able to replace only the compressor, as opposed to the whole system. Since it came at a bad time for us financially, we had to opt for replacing the compressor only. Our HVAC technician told us that had we not been using good filters and replacing them regularly, that would not have been an option. Even though we will eventually have to replace the whole unit, we now have some wiggle room and time to save up. Meanwhile, our 'builder grade' unit and Filtrete filters are functioning beautifully. Thank you, 3M!!! You saved our lives (quite possibly literally--from this Southern heat and humidity)and allowed us some time to research and save for a new HVAC unit down the road a bit.
