Great Griddle .. But prone to rust

OK, so I decided on 4 stars. First 5 stars because I really really like this griddle. HOWEVER, it is prone to rusting and needed much more cleaning than the grates and/or flavorizer bars. Have the 400 series really nice, setup is half the BBG has grates and then other half has the griddle. Use this set at least 2-3 times/week year round, maybe a bit more during 'BBQ' season. Saw the Weber page about maintaining the griddle. starting to follow that, but point here is the griddle requires much more attention than the grates! A bit of a PIA, in that you really need to clean it after most uses, paper towels, water/oil etc and a metal spatula scrapper , unlike the grates where I just use a brush to clean old meals off :)
However all that said, I really really like the options the griddle provides!

The griddle works great but after the first cook the food stuck so bad that it can’t be scrubbed off and then it started to oxidize in spots

We find that preheating the grates/griddle to 450 F for 10-15 minutes, scraping them clean with a Weber grill brush, and then adding oiled food is the best way to clean the grates and prevent sticking. Your griddle has a 2-year warranty against rust-through so please feel free to contact our team if the oxidization continues after cleaning. Thanks for being a Weber fan!

Summit griddle insert

I was expecting a seasonable insert. Is says not oil in the instructions. No metal utensils. We tried pancakes and that didn’t work so well.

The griddle is excellent for bacon and eggs and any food that you don't want to burn. Easy to use and clean. I plan on grilling quesadillas this week using the griddle. I highly recommend this excellent product from Weber.

Terrific griddle, fish grill. Great heat retention, surface is very durable and easy to clean, food does not stick. Only drawback is that the griddle is quite heavy, so cleaning requires a bit of effort - but well worth it.
