I’m a licensed Mechanical HVAC contractor with 30+ years in the business. I purchased a Nest thermostat to replace and exsisting programmable thermostat in my personal home. I cannot say enough good things about this Nest product. The ease of installation, ease of set up, information available through the Nest Home application on my phone. I would whole heartedly recommend this product.

I purchased a second one of these for my home after the first one was so easy to set up and easy to use. The instructional video on the Nest web site makes the install so easy. The unit looks great and works really well. So easy and fast to set up and connect to app on your phone and to be able to control it when your away from home is great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Check before getting a backing plate!

I replaced a blocky, old thermostat with a Nest thermostat. I assumed the old thermostat was covering a big opening in the wall, so I purchased a backing plate prior to installation. Turned out there was just was only a tiny opening, so just put the Nest up by itself (which looks way better!!!) and touched up the wall paint just before. Now I have to go return the unused backing plate. ;)

Great Thermostat, wonky unpolished apps

I have two learning thermostats and remote sensors. I really like the hardware. However, the apps - both the Nest and the Google Home app - are awful. They are clunky and disjointed. The Nest app is actually the better of the two, but Google forces you into Home. If Google would focus on the application(s) and user experience, they have a winner. Otherwise, it’s a great hardware that is being hobbled by neglected apps. I would still recommend purchasing the Thermostat, just know the apps are a work in progress.
