Issues with internal battery
on July 10, 2021

I can only give this 3 stars, I love just everything about this but, if your nest goes off line don’t put off getting it back online. We weren’t going to the lake house due to the pandemic so our nest being off line wasn’t a problem, we were home. Well, Nest doesn’t say that your Nest will keep trying to connect to your internet, which will wear down the internal battery and when it gets below 38.6% your Nest will stop working. Yes, it was still under warranty, but that becomes a hassle in itself, and guess what, tonight it went offline again. Did my Nest app send a notice? No! Thankfully someone in the house noticed, will be calling tomorrow!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi Pauline, thanks for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear that your Nest Learning Thermostat keeps getting offline. We understand how important it is to keep the thermostat connected to your Wi-Fi to utilize all of its features.
If your Nest thermostat isn't receiving enough power from your system wires and a common(C) wire is not connected to the thermostat, it will slowly start draining the battery which may result in an unexpected shutdown or disconnecting itself from your Wi-Fi network to preserve power. It may also be related to Wi-Fi connectivity issues where the battery drains due to the network usage of the device.
You may try to completely disconnect your Nest thermostat from the Wi-Fi network and try to use it manually for at least 24 hours. If the issue is resolved while it is disconnected, the battery drain could be caused by your Wi-Fi network. If the issue continues to occur, then the system wires are probably not delivering enough power, and your Nest Learning Thermostat may need a common (C) wire to get adequate power to stay charged up.
Please contact us on Google Nest Support page for further examination and troubleshooting about the issue. Here’s the link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I received this as a Christmas present and I am very pleased with it. I was looking at this before but glad I got it now. It was very easy to install amdreally easy to "program". The Nest is very intuitive and quickly learned our habits. Previous thermostat was so cumbersome to program- this is great. Plus we received an Energy Trust rebate from the state!

Changed our heater and got a cherry on top

The guy who changed out our old furnace threw in a nest free of charge. It really makes us appreciate the new heater.
We seem to save on our energy bill even though it’s on all the time.
