It's hard to think of anything that is so universally liked around the world and that brings such simply joy and pleasure to all ages than ice cream. And homemade ice cream is the "cream" of the crop. Yes, I'm assuming you aren't lactose intolerant and such, though the Cuisinart "ice cream maker" is likely to be popular even with many "dairy avoiders" as it makes other frozen desserts like sorbets. What I found particularly intriguing is the creativity having this affordable luxury can unleash in you once you've mastered some of the important basics. My first two batches were ok but not good. Then, I focused on all the details and followed the recipes and instructions to a "C" (that's for Cuisinart). I made sure the freezer bowl was adequately chilled for a day, that I didn't substitute certain milks for what was in the recipe (evaporated milk didn’t work for me), that I used only high quality ingredients (the peanut butter I used in my second attempt was probably what made that batch less desirable) and that I prepared and chilled the mixture ahead of time. Then, the next three batches were PERFECT. I used to make homemade ice cream as a kid, the old ice and salt thing and turning paddle. Here, there is none of that. The chilled bowl is what turns to a "fixed in place" paddle. No ice, no salt, no mess. Just a properly chilled bowl and mixture. You'll likely have soft serve ice cream after just a few minutes (perhaps as early as 10), but I let it go a full 18-20 to be certain and then chilled the ice cream in lidded jars for 2-3 hours or overnight. Now comes the experimentation with add ins and various fruits like mango. There are a couple of dozen starter recipes in the provided instruction and recipe booklet, and perhaps 100 online at the Cuisinart web site. Then there are a plethora of other sources to stimulate creativity in libraries and cookbooks. Generally, you can be spontaneous if you have heavy cream and whole milk on hand. But not all recipes requires these (for example, cheesecake ice cream requires only whole milk along with cream cheese, sour cream and mascarpone). And because it is frozen, you can make several batches over a few days until the cream and milk are used up, thus avoiding waste. So enjoy life with Cuisinart! Make something "simply great". Enjoy one of life’s simpler pleasures.
I would recommend this to a friend!
