This was a replacement for a Krups ice cream maker I had years ago. I chose this model because it was far less expensive than the first ice cream maker, and it had a larger capacity than my first. I actually ended up purchasing two of them at the same time. Other reviews I read on this model stated that the maker was fairly loud, but it sounds pretty quiet. I have made lots of exotic flavors since the purchase. I would highly recommend it.
