This toaster toasts- any setting higher than three burns. The bagel setting is no different than the normal setting.

I've had a lot of toasters in my life and usually I'm disappointed. This one however is happily impressing me. It toast quickly and evenly. The numbers are what they say, as in there is a difference between four and five, five and six. I'm very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend this toaster!
