The HEPA filter can last up to 5 years before needing replacement. To extend its life, reorient the filter every three months by removing it, turning it upside down, and reinserting it. The mesh dust filters on the sides should be cleaned every 1–2 months or when prompted by the indicator. A Year In - Clean air and Still No Filter Change

I've been using the Shark NeverChange Air Purifier MAX for nearly a year now, and one of the biggest selling points has already proved itself: I still haven't had to replace the main filter. If you've owned air purifiers before, you'll know that replacement filters can become an expensive ongoing cost, so the promise of long-lasting filtration is a real attraction.
One of the things that has impressed me most is just how sensitive the air quality sensor is. We have about 1700 Sq Ft of open plan living downstairs and it's all within the the Air Purifier coverage. Within minutes of cooking, the display detects a change in air quality and the purifier automatically ramps up to a higher setting to clean the air. It's genuinely impressive to watch it respond so quickly, and it gives you confidence that it's actively reacting to what's happening around you rather than simply running at a fixed speed all day.
I've also noticed a significant reduction in cooking smells, which is a big plus. Rather than having lingering food odors hanging around the house for ages, the purifier seems to help clear the air much more quickly. The odor-neutralizing cartridge is an additional feature, although the main benefit for me is how quickly the unit responds to changes in air quality.
The Debris Defense system is another feature I appreciate. It catches larger particles such as hair, dust and pet dander before they build up on the main filter. Cleaning these screens is straightforward, and being able to vacuum, wipe or rinse them makes routine maintenance easy. I suspect this is an important part of keeping the purifier working effectively over time, and it's certainly preferable to having to replace expensive filters frequently.
The air quality display is useful, too. Being able to see the readings change in real time makes it easy to tell when the purifier is working harder and when the air quality has improved. Just bear in mind that a 100% clean-air reading means the sensor's measured particle concentration is at or below its detection limit, rather than indicating that absolutely every pollutant has been removed.
There is one downside worth mentioning: it can get a little noisy when running at full speed. You definitely know it's working when it ramps up, particularly if you're nearby. Personally, I consider that a relatively small price to pay as you need increased airflow during this time for cleaner air, especially when cooking has caused the air quality to deteriorate. At lower speeds, it's almost silent, even at medium speeds much less intrusive, and the automatic adjustment means it doesn't need to run flat out all the time.
Overall, I'm very happy with the Shark NeverChange MAX. Nearly a year without needing to replace the main filter is encouraging, the automatic air quality monitoring is impressively responsive, cooking odors are reduced noticeably faster, and the maintenance is simple thanks to the removable Debris Defense screens.
If you're looking for an air purifier for a larger living space and want to avoid the expense and hassle of frequent filter replacements, this is well worth considering. It isn't completely silent when working hard, but for me, the performance, convenience and potential long-term savings make that a worthwhile trade-off.
Overall, I'm very happy with the Shark NeverChange MAX. All in all this little buddy has worked well at freshening the air. I really appreciate the outside screens that I can clean that extends the life of the filter inside.
It operates pretty silent when running in auto mode. It is a bit bulky but worth it.
