Great Little Helper

Posted by: Tumbler
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm in the second week of using Tumbler (Dark Night reference). I'll update this going forward. The initial setup of connecting to the mower and reference station were straight forward. The quick guide directions are easy to follow.
Mapping was a bit more tricky. Remember to go clockwise for the work areas and counter clockwise for the stay out zones. It's not that easy to drive, but you don't need to drive straight when dropping waypoints, just get to where you want... even if crooked, then drop the point where you want it. The most frustrating... you have to map the work area about 12 inches past the boundary for it to cut against it for full coverage. Also, everytime you edit an object, the mower starts back from the beginning of the mow. This is for ALL objects. May not be a big deal for smaller work areas, but for larger ones, you want to make an edit when you discover it's not mowing that area. My yard takes 2.5 days to mow. This needs to change to on demand (or close to it) editing.
I'm impressed with how fast the battery charges, it's incredible accuracy for patterns and it's ability to navigate when it hits an obstacle or temporarily gets stuck.

Incredibly Difficult to Set Up
on June 8, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am an IT professional with over 25 years of experience, which is important to remember as you read this. I have now set up two 410iQs in the last 30 days. I thought #1 was a fluke setup experience, but #2 was even worse. #1 just suddenly started working properly on it's own after sitting over night. I believe it was software related, perhaps fixed by an overnight firmware upgrade. #2 is still not working. Been charging for 12+ hours and says it's only 76%, although in the last hour since I started watching it, it's jumped 10%. Not normal charging behavior.
The main issue with both has been the firmware upgrades and docking but I'll focus on the #2 420iQ for the moment. It docks and charges (albeit apparently slowly), but the status never changes to Parked. It pulls out, tries again a few times, and eventually tells me there's a docking error. I figured out that when it's docking and sitting there for a moment, I can hit pause, then home, and it will go to a parked status.
I have "moved" the docking station, "added" a new one, gone through multiple power cycles, nothing works. I spent over 4 hours trying to set up #2 and gave up.
It should not be this hard. As an IT professional, I have many opinions about this, but the bottom line is that your UAT was probably done in a pristine environment and you didn't expose the product to real-world scenarios. I waited a long time for this product release and it's disappointing to say the least. All the instructions and videos imply the EPOS is the most difficult part of the set up. Not even close. EPOS worked flawlessly on the first try for both 420iQs.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a senior it has become a hard task to perform the lawn care, perhaps I could live longer if the lawn took care of itself

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For many years I have been interested in purchasing a mowing robot but didn't want to mess with the wire. I was very happy to see that Husqvarna was offering a GPS version of their mower. I spent a great deal of time to make sure this mower would fit my needs since I have an acre of ground, and my yard is a little hilly. I liked the fact that the description states that the mower would work on hills up to 45 degrees. Once receiving the mower, I read through all the instructions and procedures to setup the mower for my yard. I have found a couple issues so far. First is, I have found building the map of my yard isn't the easiest thing since it really hard to tell where the waypoints are getting set. The map editing tool is also hard to use to make adjustments since the units are all in metrics. The second thing I have found when setting waypoints on a hillside the mower wants to roll down the hill. I have also found that mowing hills doesn't work very well if there are stay-out zones on the hillside. The mower has a very hard time turning around on a hillside, it tends to slide into the stay-out zone, giving an error message that requires human interaction to reset the mower. After owning the mower for 2 weeks I have yet to have it complete a work zone without me having to reset the mower due to it slipping on a hillside. If I have to be home for the mower to complete mowing my yard, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a mowing robot.

Hi James, thank you for taking the time to reach out regarding your Automower IQ. We appreciate this feedback. We have a few suggestions that we believe will improve performance. We also want to provide you with resources. First, make sure that the pattern is set to mow in the direction of the slope i.e. parallel to the slope. Secondly, make sure the stay out zones don't have sharp of angles. Third turn off the obstacle avoidance setting. We certainly hope that these things help resolve your issues. Please know that we have a direct line for our robotics customers. If you need any assistance at all, please don't hesitate to call 833-991-ROBO(7626) . We also have a variety of troubleshooting sessions and live chat on Husqvarna.com!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Exceptional quality and engineering, as expected from Husqvarna. Drawing on a long history of successes in prior Automower generations, the iQ series finally brings RTK navigation to the US. The results on our lawn are stunning. Installation is super easy. If you're coning from a wire-based setup, there are some new tricks to learn, but map management and editing is fantastic. The radar odometry is also a great addition in case RTK GPS signal strength changes under sense trees. And, it supports a boundary wire to help the GPS if you already have one installed. We do, but I am purposefully just using RTK and it has been phenomenal. If you're even slightly on the fence, go for it, they are as good as you can get.
