Mixed feelings

I received as a Christmas gift. I'm not sure if I was excited about the Airwrap or the fact that my husband and kids actually got their hands on one! It took them three hours round trip and they did it for me :)
I have fine, straight, shoulder length, blond highlights/lowlights hair. I've used 5 or 6 times so far. It definitely takes some getting used to. I didn't love it right off the bat. With my fine hair, after I curled a section with the wand, and moved to the next section, the heat wilted the prior curl. I figured out to turn down the air speed and keep the heat on high. That helps to keep the heat away from the prior curl.
Using the round volumizing brush, the ends of my hair came out frizzy because it doesn't wrap smoothly around the brush because the dryer is blowing the hair around. My solution is to carefully wrap my hair around the brush before turning the dryer on. Then, while pressing the cooling button, unwind and pull the brush up and re-wrap around the brush to ensure it's still smooth. Then I give it another shot of hot, then cool down again. That's given the best result thus far. Still doesn't give much volume on the roots, but more on that below.
Both cases of curling and (attempt at) volumizing take longer than with my regular blow dryer or curling/flat iron. It does work faster at the drying part, so if you have thick hair you would probably appreciate that.
I ordered additional attachments for my fine hair. The attachments I wanted are not made in the Blue/Copper color, so I got a mix of pink and purple attachments. I wanted a tighter curl, so I ordered the smallest wand (22mm diameter barrel). Unfortunately the 22mm barrel is only available with the long wand meant for long hair. It does make a tighter curl but is a bit bulky and cumbersome to work with. I also ordered the small barrel volumizing round brush and small smoothing brush. The small volumizing brush is a little too small but works to detail some of the areas around my face. The small smoothing brush is easier to control while semi-drying my hair.
My biggest disappointment is that I am not able to get volume at the roots. The waves or curls are nice, but my roots stay flat on my head. I can get much more volume on my roots with my old blow dryer and round brush. And yes, I have a cabinet filled with various top-notch products and I've tried different ones through this learning process.
Because I notice the Dyson is more gentle on my hair, I am going to keep experimenting. It leaves my hair super shiny which I love. Also, because it was SOOOO expensive and my family went to great lengths for it, I especially want to love it. So for now, I'm hoping with more practice I will get better at the volume thing. I have always loved doing hair so I think I'll be able to figure it out. If anyone has suggestions about that, I'd love to hear!
The next button in this review questionnaire is asking if I would recommend this product to a friend "yes" or "no". I'm going to press YES because I believe it is less harsh on the hair. But if you have fine hair, little patience, and/or unwilling to spend the time practicing, I'd say NO.

You had mentioned that it can take some time to get used to using the Airwrap, and I couldn't agree more with that assessment. There is for sure a learning curve here, and we have tons of great hairstyling guide videos on our website, which I hope are as useful to our owners, as I have found them useful in my own use of this product. In addition to learning all the different attachments and heat settings, many users find that they tend to experiment more with how dry or wet their hair is, when they begin a styling session.
Having fine hair, you did comment on come curl retention issues. I've actually heard this a lot, and have found that the dampness or hair and the barrels being used can definitely play a part in your end result. If the hair is too dry when you begin, or if you're using the wrong size barrel for your hair type, the curl may not hold. Starting with damp hair, and making sure that the curl is completely dry before you switch off the Airwrap should help, as a damp curl will not hold. You can finish each curl with the cold shot - and it sounds like you're definitely doing that. With fine or straight hair, the 40mm barrel will probably create more of a blow-out style, rather than a curl, and the 30mm barrel usually works better.
If you're looking to create more volume at your roots, the brushes can be used on wet hair; you don't need to pre-dry or completely dry before using those. You may find that experimenting with the heat and airflow and beginning with more damp or wet hair creates more volume where you want it.

I bought thus a few weeks ago and in my first try I was hooked. This has already paid for itself and I am thrilled with the professional styling I can do myself in 20 min! I have thick curly hair so this is no small feat!

My best ever hair investment. You will only need to use the brush and the dryer part and you will look like a million bucks. The heat is just right and your hair will dry in seconds especially if you have long hair like mine and you need it dry before you hit the road. Highly highly highly recommend this product. Dyson never disappoints!

Christmas gift I plan to return

My hubby for me the airwrap complete set for Christmas. I was so excited but this hair toll leaves a lot to be desired. I have watch a lot of tutorials On how to use and achieve different curls. However I cannot for the curl to gold no matter how much product I use or tricks to set the curls. Definitely does preform not as expected. I would not recommend if you have thick hair.

I’m in love with my air wrap

I have long think hair and worst is i never have the time to commit to styling my hair. The dyson can style my hair in 20min or less. Curls, blow out, or just a blow dry my hair has never looked better. And so i feel more put together throughout the day.

Fly Aways and Limp Curls

I was exciting about this purchase, but ended up returning it. Using same styling products as I had with previous tools which achieved a smooth outcome, I had poor results with the Dyson air wrap styling tools. My hair wasn’t smooth, and was full of fly aways and frizzy bits that wouldn’t lay down smooth. Curls were fine for about 10 mins. Usually I can get two days out of a smooth blow out and curls. Overall very disappointing and I’ve returned the system.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So easy to use

I got this for Christmas and I typically am terrible at doing my hair. I normally only straighten it but with the dyson I have learned to curl, blow out and add volume to my hair. Can’t say enough good things about this product
