Love It!!

I LOVE my new lawnmower. My previous lawnmower was a Greenworks corded mower. The cord can be a hassle, but I'm horrible with gas and I prefer to just plug-in and go. My old mower was at least 20yrs old before checking out.
I very much dreaded getting a new mower. I purchased a different one prior to this. It had 2 batteries which each took 4+ hrs to charge. Then within 40mins total both batteries died, meaning I could only cut 1/3 of my front (note every few steps it'll choke). This meant it'll take 3 days to cut my front and back yards.
After much frustration, I decided to spend a little bit more and opted for this mower. One of the best choices I made! Charge time for each battery is less than 30mins. I was able to cut both front and back on one charge (both batteries). And it choked only once, but due to grass build-up.
I HIGHLY recommend this mower.
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use, Quiet, Effective, Powerful
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not recommended for St. Augustine grass
on August 19, 2026

Cutting height is 2.5 inches maximum. Too low for my lush St. Augustine grass. I have the 8 amp battery and I'm barely able to finish my front yard. If the grass is a little high, I can only do half my front yard. My lot is only 1/4 acre. Greenworks says the advertised run time is if you don't use the self propelled feature. It takes a couple of seconds after you disengage the self propelled lever to pull back on the mower. They refuse to refund my money.
Pros: Quiet

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the mower did not meet your expectations for cutting height and runtime, particularly when maintaining St. Augustine grass. Dense, thick turf can place greater demands on the mower and battery, which may affect performance and runtime depending on mowing conditions. We understand how frustrating it can be when a product does not perform as expected. A replacement mower kit was previously provided to address your concerns, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. If you continue to experience concerns with cutting height, battery runtime, or overall mower performance, we encourage you to contact our Customer Success Team so we can review the mower's operation and discuss additional troubleshooting options. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools website, or by calling 1-888-909-6757. You may also find our mower operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting videos helpful on the Greenworks YouTube channel, including tips for mowing in challenging grass conditions that may help improve performance and battery runtime. We appreciate your feedback, as it helps us better understand our customers' experiences and improve our products and support.

Very Nice

This product is better than expected. The run time on a full battery gets the job done. The electric mower cuts as good as the gas one I owned previously.

I purchased this a month ago. Used it four time so far. Overall Im happy with the mower. It cuts and badge the clippings great. Going to need a higher amp hour battery for my yard. Not sure why you supply a 2.5ah battery with this mower. Need more. Self propel is good. I dont like the placement of the speed control speed switch. It gets bumped easily and requires readjustment while mowing. Also which the wheels would freewheel when letting go of self propel . You have to jerk the mower forward and back to get the gears wil let go of the wheels.
Pros: Easy to Use, Quiet, Effective, Powerful

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad to hear you are overall pleased with the cutting and bagging performance of your 80V lawn mower. To address your question regarding the battery pairing, this unit includes a 4.0Ah primary battery alongside a 2.0Ah battery to balance total run time, overall tool weight, and package cost. The included 2.0Ah battery acts as a lightweight secondary backup or power source for handheld 80V tools like leaf blowers and trimmers where a heavier battery might cause arm fatigue, though higher capacity 80V batteries are available if your yard demands extended run time without recharging. Regarding the wheel resistance when disengaging the self-propel feature, this is caused by the rear drive transmission gears remaining momentarily locked under tension. To allow the wheels to freewheel smoothly without needing to jerk the mower back and forth, simply release the self-propel drive lever about one step before you reach the end of your mowing strip while continuing to push forward slightly; this releases the tension on the internal gear ratchet so the rear wheels roll freely when turning or pulling backward. To help prevent accidentally bumping the speed control lever during operation, ensure your grip is centered on the foam handle bar rather than resting directly over the speed adjustment housing. For helpful video demonstrations on mower operation and drive system maintenance, please visit the Greenworks YouTube channel, and feel free to reach out to our Customer Success team if you need further assistance optimizing your mower's performance. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools website, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.

Mower Problems
on August 7, 2026
Posted by: KeefeC
I bought a refurbished mower which was working fine at first. Before even finishing my lawn, the "self-propelled" lever stopped working and also began to kill the engine when engaged. To get the mower to restart, I have to fiddle with the batteries.
My self-propelled mower is no longer self-propelled. It still shuts the mower down when it is used.

Response from greenworkstools.comBy GreenworksAugust 7, 2026
Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear about the issue with the self-propel system on your 80V mower. Based on what you have described, the mower shutting down when the self-propel lever is engaged can sometimes be related to a safety interlock, battery connection, or a temporary overload condition. As a first step, we recommend removing the batteries, inspecting the terminals for any dirt or debris, and reinstalling them firmly to ensure a secure connection. It is also helpful to check that the handle and safety bail are fully engaged, as partial engagement can interrupt operation. Make sure the wheels and drive system are free of grass buildup or obstructions, and try operating the mower on a flat surface with a slightly higher deck height to reduce load. If the issue persists, try alternating between the batteries to see if one may be underperforming, and ensure both are fully charged and cooled before use. For additional troubleshooting guidance and maintenance tips, we encourage visiting the Greenworks YouTube channel, where you can find helpful videos on lawn mower operations and care. If you continue to experience issues, we recommend reaching out to our Customer Success team for further assistance, they can help diagnose the problem and provide next steps. You can contact them at 1-888-909-6757 or via chat on Greenworkstools.com.

Horrible mower
on August 6, 2026

Horrible mower. Brand new. Mowed ok the first time. I have a small yard and two batteries. Neither battery stays charged for more than 1/4 of the small yard. Cuts off every 30 seconds. Can only do it on the highest cutting setting. Horrible mower and both batteries and not good either.

Response from greenworkstools.comBy GreenworksAugust 6, 2026
We apologize for the frustrating experience with your brand-new 80V 21" Lawn Mower (SKU 2501202) and battery performance. Frequent shutoffs and short runtime on a small yard usually indicate that the mower's automatic load sensor is being overloaded or that a safety circuit is triggering to protect the motor and batteries. We recommend checking under the deck to ensure no thick grass buildup is restricting blade rotation, verifying that the blade is properly installed and sharp, and ensuring the grass collection bag or side discharge chute is clear so clippings can flow freely. Additionally, try raising the cutting height slightly for thick or wet grass to reduce drag, make sure your batteries are fully clicked into the mower's battery compartment until they latch securely, and ensure the batteries are fully charged until the charger indicator turns solid green prior to mowing. For visual, step-by-step guidance on mower deck maintenance, battery care, and optimal mowing practices, please visit the official Greenworks YouTube channel. If the mower continues to stall every 30 seconds or your 4.0Ah batteries are not holding a full charge after these checks, please reach out directly to our Customer Success Team at 1-888-909-6757 or through our online support center so we can help troubleshoot further.
