I have had my chainsaw for over 2 years and can say it has over preformed my expectations. This saw has been used a lot since I have been clearing land for pasture with it. This includes cutting trees down, limbing them and cutting trunks into pieces for burning. The quiet run and ease of operation is great.
I was looking for a replacement for my gas saw that needed new fuel lines, filter, primer bulb, spark plug and chain. I was tired of the gas saw and decided to try this one, after about a week of research of course. This thing is awesome. It's very quiet, no hearing protection required :) I needed to cut a downed branch, 30' long and varying from 12" down to 3" diameter. When I was done cutting it into 20" rounds I still had two bars on the battery. Very happy customer here!
I am very happy with the results of this saw. We had a lot of storm damage a little over 3 years ago. So far I have cut all the wood for the last 3 winters with this saw. We heat our home only with wood and live in northern MN. It exceeded my expectations. I bought it thinking I would just use it in the yard. I prefer it over my gas chainsaw and use it all the time. I have multiple batteries so I can change them out when I am out in the woods to fill the truck.
I bought the 80 volt 18 inch chain saw. Great machine for me the first charge overnight it lasted about 30 minutes and all lights lit as full charge was at about 20 minutes. The oak log I cut laying on another log is 23 inches in diameter so it took two cuts to complete the next was a few branches and another couple pieces of the main trunk. I am very pleased with this unit. I like the quit operation. I will probably switch to an Oregon chain with a (what I think) better roller nose bar. Can't wait to have enough $$$ to buy another battery. Very strong cutter!!
I first used this 80V saw to cut up some juniper for firewood, and was impressed by the overall performance of the saw. After about eight cuts of average 20" rounds that took about 15 minutes, the fully charged 2 Ah battery still had two lights showing. At 14.6 lbs with the 2 Ah battery the weight is very manageable, and I believe would be even with the 4 Ah battery. Battery recharge time is less than 30 minutes for the 2 Ah battery. Unlike the 40V #20312 Greenworks saw I have had for several years, the 80V saw does not have a variable speed trigger. This is disappointing to me because in some situations it is nice to be able to slow the chain speed. The tool in the handle is a loose fit and may fall out, should be a more positive "click in-click out" fit. Cannot comment on durability at this time, as I have not had a chance to use it much. Will leave more feedback after I have used the saw more extensively.
We've had this device for four years now, so this is more of a follow-up than an initial review.
I use this chainsaw to cut up windfalls on both our home and office land, where there are some trees (many over 12" diameter).
So far, all I've had to do to keep this saw working perfectly is to clean it when I'm done, keep the chain/bar reservoir full of oil and re-sharpen the chain once/year. That's it. It keeps working reliably year after year.
I've never had a gas-powered saw do that. Even with winterizing and the proper maintenance, all of the other saws I've used failed after 1-2 seasons and required servicing of the gas motor. Every one of them.
I'll keep using it until it falls apart and then I'll get another.
Wassapointed 2nd time out. Just used this morninng for third attempt. 3 cuts. 1 16" and 2 8" cuts. And its dead on fesh charge. Tool falls out of slot in handle. Box had no packaging in it? Manual was stuck to packaging tape. Was this a return? Just charged again and got less cuts then my last with smaller part of tree. Nedd to see about reeturn i guess.
