Purchased this unit after doing research on battery operated units. Wanted a unit with low operating costs, not dealing with the hassle of always needing fresh gas to avoid carb malfunctions, power equivalent to a gas driven unit, and a reasonably environmentally friendly unit. Chose the 80V over the 40 V due to bar length and higher power. Set up went quickly and easy. Battery charged per spec. Largest log cut 24" dia. Got 100 +/- cuts of various dia. before needing a recharge. Purchased unit in June of 2018. not wanting to give it the evil eye, but it has performed far beyond expectations. A great buy. Only downside is trying to find replacement chains locally. Plenty of Oregon blades but this particular model is akin to "hens teeth".
This chainsaw is great to have around the house, especially when you have a lot of trees like I do. Only used it for about a total of 10 hours with very little trouble (chain wasn't tight enough and would pop off) . The battery life with the 2ah seems to last 45-60 minutes but by that time your arms get tired. I do have the 4ah battery also, I just don't use it with the chainsaw because of the weight. This was my first purchase of a Greenworks tool and I was so pleased that I got the 26" hedge trimmer and 580cfm blower.
Just bought a second 80V Greenworks chainsaw over Christmas. I now have 2 of them. I really like these chainsaw especially up in the bucket of the cherry picker trimming trees when I don't have to pull the robe within a tight space. Got to love the torque.
I have used this for almost 1 year.Felled some large Eucs and a few smaller oaks. I have 3 batteries and keep charging while sawing.Use lots of thin bar oil ! Buy some spare chains, spare bar and the trick sharpener file .Use a depth gauge for the rackers/depth. A big advantage seldom mentioned is the very low noise level. It won't annoy your neighbors but fr more important if you are felling - you can hear the tree start to crack and bail .With a gas chainsaw ,the falling tree can be an unannounced surprise ! I also use a huge kinetic recovery rope to ensure the tree falls in the right direction. A huge Jameson slingshot on an 8 ft pole is another useful tool.
I bought this to trim several trees on our new home lot. As it turns out the job was much bigger than I thought. This product is amazing, cutting down hard wood trees, 10 - 12 " diameter and very hard wood. We live in central TN and I have taken down more that what I would have expected for a chainsaw. I was very skeptical to pay this much for a pole saw but really needed to get up in the trees. I have to say this was a worthwhile investment. I have numerous other GW products. All work as designed. I always get the 80V products because I want it to work and I put it through it's paces. If your questioning whether to buy I would highly recommend.
I normally try to saw limbs and prune by hand but after a storm left me with a mountain of large broken limbs and trees I needed a chainsaw. I already have the 80V Greenworks lawn mower which I love so it seemed logical to get the chainsaw. It's plenty powerful. I sliced thru some 12 - 16" diameter trunks and limbs with no problem. The chain is low kickback which I guess isn't as aggressive?? I had to readjust the bar a couple times within the first hour of use because of chain slack - not sure if that is normal or not. After about 2 hours of use I resharpened the chain - but I also used it to remove a stump and was cutting into roots. Time will tell how durable but it is convenient to just plug a battery in and go. Weight is similar to gas chain saw of the same size.
We own several Greenworks tools, including a smaller chainsaw, blower and weedeater. They have all been dependable, although after quite a bit of use, the blower's switch seems to be going bad. My husband wanted a saw he could start without difficulty to cut larger trees and this fits the bill.
The bar that came with the saw was damaged when it got pinched by a difficult tree. This new bar came with different paint, but an exact replacement for the original bar & chain. The saw ran like new and I expect to use it for another 40 or 50 trees without difficulty.
