Crashed 2 of my windows computers

Tried first on an classic laptop, opened up the usb drivers that were proposed, after that reboot of the laptop > BSOD
Had to use a previous restore point of Windows to make it boot again.
Second, brand new laptop > installed drivers > reboot didn't work this time, stuck in a bootloop + BitLocker didn't like it too
I'm done with this adapter, don't buy

Poor USB 2 Resolution

I picked up this product at a local store and it stated that it worked with both USB 3.0 and 2.0, I had some minor issues installing the drivers to get it working but nothing to complain about. The bad part was the fact that no where on the box nor in the instructions in the box did it state that the maximum 2.0 resolution was only 800X600. I've used StarTech in the past and have never been disappointed until today.

Due to the compression that this adapter uses, it is unable to reach resolutions above 800x600 when connected to USB 2.0. If you need a higher resolution over USB 2.0, we recommend and adapter with a higher compression rate such as our USB32VGAES found here: https://www.startech.com/USB32VGAES. It works but you need a driver download first...

It works but you need driver download first. if you're in a quick loaner pool. Nope, get the other one. Not convenience plug and play. You'll need plug and pray for non-technical folks.

Slowed down the video of all monitors.

I installed this on my machine and the mouse and other response times of my machine slowed down. My mouse now stutters across the screen never moving smoothly. It is plugged into a USB 3 port and I am using a 7th Gen I5 processor with 8GB of RAM. If I unplug the device my computer works normally, When I plug it in everything slows down. Running Windows 10 Pro. I just use this PC for word processing and excel and other low video required programs. Even reducing the resolution on the monitor did little to help the issue.

The product is good and meeting the requirements if it is hooked up to one monitor.
But, if you have dual monitors, the adapter is not picking up sometimes. You have remove the USB and put it back to look for the second monitor.
Other than that, no issues and it is working fine.

Wont Use This Any More

I tested this USB to VGA adapter using a couple different laptops and after some testing I determined that I will not use it any more.
The adapter comes in a box the size of a couple Blu-ray disk cases. The adapter is slightly longer than the length of my hand and is made of a smooth plastic. I noticed that it didn't feel as sturdy as other StarTech products and is a little light.
When I connected the adapter to my computer, I heard the OS chime that something was connected but nothing ever happened. I looked at the manual (which I never had to do before for StarTech adapters). The adapter has a built-in USB drive "FL2000DX" with the drivers needed to get started. I installed the included software "Fresco Logic Inc." and I then had to reboot. After I was able to connect and begin using the VGA port. The video from the adapter was slow as video lagged slightly compared to my main screen. Later I determined that not only did the installer load a driver "Fresco Logic IDDCX", it also installed its own software and put itself in the start-up items on my computer. In these days of viruses and backdoors, it doesn't make sense to risk my computer or network with this software. A few weeks after using this adapter, I noticed my computer running slowly and I uninstalled the Fresco software to get my computer running smoothly again.
I was hoping to use this product regularly but I can't put my network at risk with this untrusted and unstable software. I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

Not easy

I receive the startech VGA video adapter as a free item for my honest review. It was not as easy as I thought it was because it was my first time using an adapter on my television from my computer. I still had to have my son help me because no directions were sent with it. But as soon as my son showed me who is 12 years old how to get everything together it was easy. If you`re not super technical person like myself just make sure you have someone that`s there to show you how to use the product and then you`d be able to use it successfully.
