Economical printer

Installation of the printer was very esy. The four separate ink cartridges are easy to load and are lasting a long time. Much better than printers that use one cartridge for all the colors. The time it takes to start printing after pressing the print button is only average, but once the printer begins to print it is very fast. Overall quality of the products produced is excellent. Printed pages both black and white and color are very sharp and clear. Scanned images are superior to other all in one printers and the ControlCenter4 app makes it very easy to scan and save to computer files. Customer service is average at best. I called with a question and all the person could do was send me more instructions. Instructions that come with the printer are very basic and do not address any of the apps that are downloaded with the printer.

SO FAR SO GOOD. IS PERFORMING WELL AND I AM VERY PLEASED THAT I CHOSE BROTHER. WE HAVE A BROTHER FAX MACHINE THAT IS 12 YEARS OLD AND STILL PERFORMS GREAT. NOW THAT IS A SIGN OF RELIABILITY, AND THAT IS WHY BROTHER WAS OUR FIRST CHOICE

a nice basic all-in-one printer

This printer was easy to set-up and begin using. I have had 8 or 9 ink-jet printers over the past 30 years, mostly of the big name brand. This time I decided to go with a smaller manufacture where, after brief research, it seems that the ink might be more economical.

Worst printer. Never worked from day one and only used it three times. Manual feed is garbage. Only winds paper up inside the machine and jams. If it doesn't do that then it just feeds the sheet strait through and then says jam... Ink door wont stay closed. Had to tape it shut. Runs through ink quicker than a 3 mile per gallon truck. Half the time doesn't read the ink cart... hate this machine. This thing is only four months old. I will never buy another brother...

My printer was working fine until the latest windows 10 update. Now I have a printer that doesn't print. I have tried to update the drivers though Microsoft and Brothers to no avail. I am ready to send it back since I've only had it for a few weeks.

SOME GOOD,SOME BAD

This printer model is the MFC-J4320DW. I would not recommend buying this. However, the other printer in the Basic Uses Guide is the MFC-J4420DW. I would recommend buying this one has added features that are lacking in one that I purchased.
I saw some good and some bad about this printer. Let me start with the bad.
This printer does not have a document feeder. I have owned the personal computer since the first IBM Personal Computer came out. I've never had a printer that didn't have a document feeder before. I could have returned the printer to Staples but I didn't have the need to use a document feeder until after the return period expired.
I went through the Brother manual for this printer before I purchased it and I read that there was a document feeder. When I discovered there was not a document feeder, I went back and reread the manual. I still read that there was a document feeder. I called tech support and asked them about it. They pointed out to me that the manual was for two printers (which I did know) and that the document feeder was only on the second printer. So I reread the manual again. Sure enough they were right. The problem was that the manner in which the manual was written you had to read very closely to realize what it was really saying. This problem could've been avoided by having a comparison table for the two printers identifying what features were common to both and what features were unique to which printers. Probably a majority of people could have caught the meaning in the manual. The thing is a manual should not be written just for a majority of people but for everyone. I am a senior, senior citizen with ailments that go along with my age. I was an IBM engineer and had a Masters Degree in Engineering so it is most likely that 25 years ago (before I retired) I would have caught the meaning.
Now for the good. The most fantastic feature of this printer or the ink tanks. The tanks that came with the printer were only partially full. I didn't expect them to last as long as they did. This week I replaced my first tank, my black ink tank. Was I impressed with the ink tank. You would think that when you have seen one ink tank you have seen them all, but this ink tank is built like a German Panzer tank. You have to see it to believe it. I have a another printer by an different manufacturer and had to replace three ink tanks the day before. I mishandled one and get ink all over my hand. With the Brother ink tank there is little chance of having this problem.
The printer does a good job of printing and faxing. Scanning works real well also accept that there is no document feeder you must manually place each page on the glass. I haven't used the Photo Capture feature yet. Very impressive also is the Control Panel. It is easy to use, very intuitive. Too bad that whoever engineered the Control Panel didn't write the manual.

Printing ledger size 11x14 is useless without a ledger size paper tray. Tedious and rarely prints straight which is unfortunate given the cost of inkjet 11x14 paper.
