Two ugly problems with this refrigerator.

I WANT to love this refrigerator, or even like it, having spent so much for it, but two glaring problems keep me from appreciating it.
1. The hinged strip attached to the left door, and which creates a sealing surface for the RIGHT door when closed does not return to the proper position for the door to be closed on its own, as the designers intended. The spring is so weak that operating the flap is basically a manual operation every time the door is opened. Aggravating, and would have been a disqualifier had I known about it before purchasing. I can see from other reviewers that this is a design problem.
2. The ice maker is a very poor design. We are constantly required to open the cover and stir the ice with the handle of a plastic spatula to break the ice free so that it will dispense. There is no proper ice agitator as with most other ice makers. Very aggravating, and would have been a disqualifier for me if I had known about it. ALSO, and I see that other owners suffer this as well, the ice dispensing chute jams about 50% of the time. You have to reach up into the chute to pull the cover door open manually, which dumps a bunch of ice onto the floor. I've tried cleaning it with vinegar to make sure calcification wasn't the problem, but nothing I've done works. I think the servo that opens the door fully just doesn't work properly 50% of the time.
I would not purchase this model again, and I am, in fact, considering selling it used so that I can buy a properly designed and built refrigerator. If I do that, it won't be an LG.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The slim ice maker allows for better utilization of space. Everything works great. After researching and looking for months, this was the only refrigerator that met all of our requirements.

Great refrigerator

We've had this for a month now. Unless you use a ton of ice, this is a great unit. Why waste 25% of your freezer or refrigerator space on an ice maker for that once per year party. Freezer drawer is also outstanding the way pulling the outer drawer easily pulls the upper inner drawer too and if you don't want what is in there finger tip pressure glides it back out of your way. LG really thought this baby out. If you have a family of 6 using ice it is probably a bad choice. Otherwise a great machine.
Pros: Performance, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, small ice maker

Best fridge I have owned!!

We were looking for a bigger fridge, and the French door style appealed to us. When we saw this LG model in the store, it really caught our eye! Once delivered and hooked up, I have never owned a fridge as nice as this one. OK, so you have to open both doors to get at the vegetable tray, and the ice maker isn't that big, but the fridge works great, it's huge, and it keeps all of our food at the perfect temperature, especially the milk!! I don't like warmish milk!! Thank-you LG!!
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, Quality, size

I was leary at first. I was unfamiliar with LG refrigerators but this was the ONLY refrigerator that offered everything I was looking for. I have only had this refrigerator for 2 weeks but so far, I love it. With a french door model you should expect at times to have to open both doors, common sense! The space you have along with the ice maker is great! Ice maker is a little slow but for my situation it is just fine, unlike others I don't even notice noise from my ice maker. If it is really quite you might hear the ice drop. Overall so far I am very pleased with this product.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, size- sq.ft. per width

New Refrig
on July 18, 2011

I am impressed this new refrig does not require regular maintance to clean/vacuum lint/dust from the fins under the refrig versus other brands. I inquired from LG about this feature as there is nothing in the manual about this maintenance.
The filter is easy to remove and replace and the water is noticeably better tasting than my previous refrig.
I like how the smaller freezer drawer automatically pulls out instead of investing in a separate drawer. All items in the freezer are easily accessible.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality

It's the little things....

I've had this refrigerator for about 6 months. It's a good looking fridge with enormous capacity. You can fit just about anything in there! There are just a few nuances that are slightly irritating. The ice capacity is rediculously small, but we found this to be comprable with all fridge models today. Fortunately there is a function to make ice quickly which helps. I find an issue with the left door where if i don't control the closure, the door will either slam shut or it wont close all the way. Last is the water dispenser...when guests use it for the first time, trial and error usually ends up with water being sprayed onto the floor. Unfortunately, anyone who does not know how to use the water dispenser will keep the glass under the ice dispenser and press the water dispenser with their hand instead of moving the glass from ice location to water location. At least each person only makes this mistake once.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design
