Nice Subwoofer - Recommended

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This sub is great. It's a standard design (a big box with a woofer in the front and plugs in the back). It's relatively large in size and looks like the images on the website. The sound is powerful, clear and exactly what I had hoped for. I have several other subwoofers, including some other higher end ones and this is equal to or better performance than the others. I would say the design is good and no complaints, but at the same time it isn't as "fancy" of a design as some others. That's probably my biggest negative -- which isn't much of a negative.
Overall, I am very happy with this sub and I think you will like it too. If you are considering this as an option for you, I think you will be happy with the purchase.

Heavy hitting and great sound

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The key component in an audio setup for me personally is the subwoofer. While it's main job is to rumble, it's that level of rumble that can either make or break the setup.
This subwoofer is beyond anything I have ever used. I'm a bit confused by all the levels and switches on the back, but after spending time changing the settings, I found what I was looking for.
Initially, I had everything set too high and it sounded muffled and heavy. After fine tuning those switches and knobs I got something that just sounded right to me personally.
I'd like to note that this subwoofer hits so hard that my room and walls and floor and even the dishes in my sink were rattling. I was scared, but giggled at just how awesome and powerful this thing is.
The design is very nice and the materials used seem very top notch. It's a very solid piece of equipment and it shows just how hard the people who made this worked. Great job!
I'm over the moon with this product and love every minute of audio that pours out of it. It's a perfect companion to other speakers I have and makes everything I'm listening to sound wonderful.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Klipsch is King!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always been obsessed with high end audio, I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile and have forever been in love with anything related to Klipsch. I personally believe their equipment is top of the line and this subwoofer is right on par with what I’d expect from Klipsch. The first thing I appreciated about the subwoofer is the weight, it is a solidly built sub and as expected it is on the heavier side. The overall appearance of the sub is very aesthetically pleasing and would fit nicely in any interior. It is very easy to connect to a receiver with a single RCA cable. The dials on the back are well placed and appear to be very accurate with the set levels. The amount of bass that this subwoofer produces is simply astonishing. I was absolutely impressed with the quality and richness of the output. It can put out enough bass to rattle your entire house, if you are into that level of volume! If your current setup for surround lacks quality components, this sub will certainly sound out of place as the audio is outmatched. I can confidently say it will be the centerpiece in anyones surround sound set up. I am almost at a lack of words to describes how pleased I am with this product. First use left me with an ear to ear smile the entire time I used it, I am literally elated with this sub:) I have used this sub so far for movies and music, it is equally amazing for both uses. I previously had a Polk audio sub that in my opinion is not even in the same class as this sub, this baby is far superior! I have always been a Klipsch enthusiast, this sub confirms why I will always call Klipsch the king of audio. If you are considering purchasing a sub in the near future, hands down, this product should be at the top of your list. It is the perfect combination of quality, appearance, and output that may or may not leave you with unhappy neighbors:)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unpacking the subwoofer was easy and quick. Once I got it out of the box, I read the instructions first. Especially with electronics, it is important to read and understand what you need to do before you must troubleshoot what you did. Trust me, I have learned that lesson the hard way!
That said, I set the subwoofer up in the same spot as my current subwoofer. It is sitting on carpet and padding, and thus is somewhat isolated to reduce floor and wall vibration.
First off, I learned the Klipsch Sub-120 was power efficient. With the gain set at 12 o’clock and the crossover set to LFE, it was quite intolerable when I played a streaming movie with 5.1 sound; the LFE rumbling sounded like the world was ending. Of course, that was a quick test, and a system calibration was clearly in order, no matter what. After two full Audessey XT calibration cycles, I was ready to conduct my "sonic testing."
First off, I learned the Klipsch Sub-120 was power efficient. With the gain set at 12 o’clock and the crossover set to LFE, it was quite intolerable when I played a streaming movie with 5.1 sound; the LFE rumbling sounded like the world was ending. Of course, that was a quick test, and a system calibration was clearly in order, no matter what. After two full Audessey XT calibration cycles, I was ready to conduct my "sonic testing."
Did I test the subwoofer with home theater content? Yes. However, for the most part, I had to keep in mind that listening to over-produced movie audio coming to me over a digital delivery system is not as “scientific” as using standardized source material, so I went for recorded music.
Since the only new item was the subwoofer, I started with my favorite speaker torture testing source, “The Great Fantasy Adventure Album”, featuring Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. I note that the label has an orange caution box which states: “CAUTION: Digital Sound Effects at high levels with infrasonic frequencies to 5HZ. Please establish safe playback levels before playing tracks 3, 5, 19, 20 and 21. Excessive playback levels could result in damage to equipment.” The last three cuts on the CD, Cybergenesis (19), Terminator Theme (20), and Jurassic Lunch (21) are true tests, and the Sub-120 passed with flying colors. “Quick” bass sequences were not muddy or doubled and the low frequency sound was somehow more “integrated” with the other speakers. I suffered no equipment damage at nearly rave club levels.
I then played a few albums (yes, records) on my Denon DP-47F turntable with Sumiko Blue Point Special cartridge. Here is where the real difference jumps out and hits you in the face. Simply put, the low frequency responsiveness and tonality was terrific. I first played Rick Wakeman’s "The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable" (1975 release). This record has a lot of low frequency MOOG (and other keyboard) content, and sounded excellent. Next, I played the first Santana album: terrific! I then played Buddy Rich: "Buddy Rich Class of ’78," to listen to Birdland, which has a great string bass in the mix. The sound of that string bass was so “live”, it raised goosebumps. This album was recorded direct-to-disk, and thus had slightly higher sound quality than my “standard” albums.

But wait, there’s more! The final critical test was to play one of my limited-release Mobile Fidelity UHQR albums. Naturally, I had to use "Dark Side of the Moon." Once again, the Sub-120 outperformed my (now raised) expectations. Most specifically, Time and Speak to Me/Breathe just sounded very “fresh” (think: live) and not over-engineered.
To sum it up, the Klipsch Sub 120 sounds great and improved the sound of my (what I thought was pretty good) audio system. In fact, I have now upgraded my system rating from Good to Great and have my old subwoofer up for sale.
