Auto lift could be better

I’m overall satisfied with this turntable but I agree with other comments that I see that express dissatisfaction with the auto lift. When the needle gets to the end of the album side it always takes a long time for the tone arm to lift (maybe 30 to 50 seconds). This is true with all my albums and there is no adjustment. My previous Philips turntable would lift the tone arm and stop the platter rotation fairly soon after the album ends which I really liked. Would be nice if Technics could improve this.

Looks great but why isn’t there a pitch control on the side of it

Hello there! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We’re glad to hear you like the look of the turntable. We appreciate your feedback about the pitch control, it’s definitely something we take into consideration for future designs. We hope you continue to enjoy the quality and sound it delivers!
Bought in January ‘25, purchased a separate headshell with the VM95ML, a very worthwhile upgrade. Turned off the auto-lift feature within a month because I felt like to get it to reset was eventually going to break the lift arm. That feature should work on a Technics turntable. Disappointed in this, but the direct drive is solid, and it plays flawlessly. Buttons are a little clunky, would expect a better feel in a table at this price. Overall I feel like I should have bought a vintage Technics at half the price and gotten a better product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello! We're glad you took time to leave a review! Your feedback helps us identify areas where we can make positive changes. Please note that the auto-lift feature is a precautionary feature and may vary depending on the specific record. The behavior can differ based on the location of the lead-out groove on each record. Depending on the record, the auto lift-up may take some time to operate after playback concludes, or it might even activate while the record is still playing. It’s great to know that the direct drive and overall performance are working well for you. Your feedback is valuable, and we’ll definitely keep it in mind for future product improvements.
This is overall a nice deck so far, and the apparent build quality of the motor, platter, and plinth are even higher than expected. Like the SL-1200 series, I would expect the SL-100c to similarly last a long time with such a robust build quality. Just solidly built. My only nit to pick is that the tonearm lifter and especially the auto lift function at the end of a record are both pretty coarse and slightly flimsy feeling. Lowering the tonearm exhibits some damping, but the lift functions are abrupt and don’t feel as connected and silky smooth as I was hoping. The start/stop and power buttons are both reliable and responsive, but again, don’t have a particularly connected not plush feel to them.
But overall I’m pleased with the fit and finish of this deck, and even the preinstalled Audio-Technica MM cartridge sounds pretty good out of the box. This is the most accessible way to get into a new Technics turntable, and as such it gets the job done.
Bonus feature- there are YouTube tutorials on how to get into the service mode of the very similar SL-1500c so that you can easily change the auto lift function so that the motor automatically stops at auto lift. It will also supposedly shut down power 20 mins after auto lift. There is also a way to calibrate the auto lift so that it won’t lift up too early if you have a long LP with a short run off groove close to the center spindle/label.
The SL-100c is pretty basic, but with enough extra features and none of the DJ features to appeal to a casual vinyl user. The pre installed cartridge also makes set up super easy.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hi David! We're delighted to hear that the build quality of the SL-100C exceeded your expectations and that you’re pleased with the overall fit and finish of the turntable. It’s great to know that the pre-installed Audio-Technica MM cartridge provided a solid listening experience right out of the box. We also appreciate your feedback on the tonearm lifter and auto-lift function. Please note that the auto-lift feature is a precautionary feature and may vary depending on the specific record. The behavior can differ based on the location of the lead-out groove on each record. Depending on the record, the auto lift-up may take some time to operate after playback concludes, or it might even activate while the record is still playing.
I've had this turntable for six months and I love everything about it including the build quality and impressive sound .I've only upgraded the stylus which is very easy to do with the supplied Audio Technica cartridge .Highly recommend

Hi there! Thank you for recommending us, we're delighted to read your positive thoughts! We’re glad to hear that you’re loving your turntable after six months of use. It’s great to know that the build quality and sound have impressed you, and that upgrading the stylus was a simple process with the supplied Audio-Technica cartridge.
I purchased the SL100C to upgrade from an entry level turntable. It has exceeded my expectations. I thought that its performance would be solid and reliable, but I was skeptical that I would I would really hear an improvement from my ATLP3XBT. The proof was in the sound. The music is clean, deep, and enveloping. I chose the 100C over the 1500 because I already use a good separate phono pre-amp, and I already used an AT VM95SH cartridge, so I could easily and quickly upgrade the included Audio-Technica conical stylus cartridge. This is the most expensive component in my system, and I feel totally justified in my purchase. I listen to my jazz records every day, and this deck brings them to life.

Ok, first something good. It is a very quiet turntable, I do not think it feels flimsy, and with a decent cartridge it sounds quite good. It really does. If you do not care about auto-lift, I would recommend.
However, if you are interested in this turntable because of auto-lift, or lift at all, stay away. It is not even a sad joke, it is just plain sad. You are better off lifting with your hands, no matter how shaky they may be, than with this "cueing lift". It does not lift until it simply jumps (up and to a side, depending on its mood). Lowering it is similar. Auto-lift feature has to be seen to be believed. You may finish your dinner before it lifts the arm, if it ever does it at all. Why even bother putting it in? It works sometimes, inconsistently, or not at all. The only sadder thing than this is an explanation (to another reviewer here) that auto-lift depends on the record and what not. It should not be that way. I have a semi-automatic Technics from, I believe, 1981. SL-Q2. It has never failed lifting the arm very shortly after the song ends (it even brings it back and stops the platter, by the way). Cueing is still soft. Needle drops on the record like feather. We are talking approaching half a century. Yes, it could be done. Really, this cueing on 1500c is a disaster. I am mentioning it so much because I suspect that a large number of buyers opted for this turntable because of it. It is a huge disappointment. Stay away although I do not know where else you can go. Proper semi-automatic turntables are not that hot these days.
If anyone at Technics is reading this and really wants to improve details, put a place/holder for 45s adapter. It is small thing that makes a big difference in convenience.
While at that, a place for spare cartridge/headshell (mono, in my case) would be phenomenal. Once upon a time, turntables had all of that. Along with functional cueing and auto-lift/stop.

Such an excellent turntable. Plays so stable with pure sound reproduction and no hum as with older direct drives. My old Technics SL-3200 purchased in the dark ages was enjoyable but this is such a dramatic difference I wish I would have switched earlier.
