Impressive Cordless Angle Grinder

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I unboxed this 20V MAX Brushless Cordless 4.5 in. Paddle-Switch Angle Grinder the other day and was immediately impressed with the heft this angle grinder has, consistent with other Dewalt tools, it indicates the casing can take some banging around or accidental drops. The other impression I had is that the motor is heavy duty and can run for extended periods without burning out. With the 20V / 5AH battery attached, it’s actually well balanced in your hand – so while the overall weight I wouldn’t put as light, it feels pretty good and maneuverable. I think it is a bit shorter to the Makita and Hilti angle grinders I’ve used – which is a plus. The tool came with a total of 3 grinder cutting wheel (disc) guards – all for 4 1/2” discs, one has a removable bottom – which in place can give you more spark or cutting/grinding protection. Nice feature is the guard has a spring loaded latch allowing it to be rotated in 6 locking positions depending on which way you are cutting/grinding – hadn’t seen that on other brands I’ve used. The sturdy, removable, plastic handle is able to be positioned on the right or left – I happened to be left-handed so I’d put it on the right, a lot of times I don’t need the handle, but it is a nice feature to have and seems to be sturdy enough to last on a typical job site and big enough for a gloved hand. Putting a new cutting disc on was straight forward with the “chuck design” now just requiring a hex wrench vs. one of those specialty spanners that always seem to be lost or across the job site in the tool container. The good sized disc locking button on top is as expected. The chuck is reversable for those grinding discs with a dome on them. The paddle-switch, on-off trigger, with a safety you have to first engage is fairly standard – I guess the safety is a good thing when you are carrying the grinder or wrestling with it take an old disc off and put a new one on or just handing the tool to someone awkwardly, etc. I wish there was a “on-lock” button or feature for those long sheet metal cuts or grinding moments, probably some regulation against it, or nasty accidents reported, so I get it. With the trigger’s fairly light touch, you’re probably not get hand-soreness from that. I haven’t seen this yet on any brand of Angle grinder that I’ve used, corded or otherwise, but I wish they would make a variable speed one that you could start off slow for example to mark your cut and then ramp up to full speed. Most importantly the high RPM this thing spins is faster than a Hilti (IMHO) and it has impressive torque – which made it is easy to cut through steel rebar very easy. I notice the motor doesn’t bog down, and with a Dewalt disc for steel/stainless, it worked better than expected. I haven’t used it (or any Dewalt tool) until the 20V/5AH battery wore out like I have with the smaller batteries, so I can’t comment on cutting time on one battery – but I suspect it would be acceptable. I always carry extra batteries and take my chargers to the job site. And the interchangeability of Dewalt batteries across such a wide variety of tools is always a plus. Overall, I’m very happy with this Dewalt Angle Grinder from the distinctive Yellow, overall look and feel, high speed RPM’s, and durable, heavy-duty materials of the casing. I have a feeling I’ll be passing this one, along with my other Dewalt tools, to my kids when I finally hang it up.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product has been great! I have been using it for cutting tile lately and its great to not have a cord in the way. Zero complaints about this product and will use it for more metal working soon as well. Comfortable and powerful

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This angle grinder has all the power needed to get the job accomplished. When paired with a 5ah battery, this tool will go for hours. Mine came with three guards: open bottom, closed bottom and a hybrid. The hybrid is convenient for cutting/grinding. This unit does not have the "hand guard", which makes it easier to use with welding gloves. The guard is easily adjustable on the go. Would have given 5 stars, but mine was missing the wrench to tighten the disk.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a toddler who loves getting into my tools these days, and despite me locking them up in my toughstack, he’s quite resourceful at getting into it. Anyway - the new safety switch is a great improvement, and while simple to engage - my toddler cannot figure it out. Love the compact design. Love the grip. Big fan of the grinder.
