Best Wide Zoom I have owned! Crisp Clear but Heavy

The LUMIX G Series LEICA 10-25mm F1.7 Lens H-X1025, really is the best wide zoom I have ever owned. I purchased this for a safari trip and was not disappointed in any way. The images are crisp. The performance is nice and smooth to operate. I paired this zoom with the Panasonic 100-400 so that I could pick a lens for the day without having to switch lenses with all dust in our open jeep. I especially wanted the weatherproof and durability this lens offered for some peace of mind. It was both rainy and dusty at different times of the day, which made me happy for the weatherproofing. Autofocus is quick and responsive. Minimum focus distance is good at about 11 inches (.3 meter).
I sold it, about a year after my safari. It was not for lack of love, but lack of use mostly due to the size and weight, in that I could not bring myself to lug it around on trips. At 690g (1.5 lbs) it was pushing the limit of what I’m comfortable for use on the camera body for extended periods of time. When not on the camera, it was a lot to carry around in the bag both weight and size, just in case I might need it. The wide 77mm filters were also more expensive compared to smaller filters found on primes.
I looked at the lengths I was shooting at on my keepers, and it was always at the extremes 10mm or 25mm. I know that love can be fleeting, but I have fallen in love again, this time with the Panasonic / Leica excellent primes which are less than half the weight (while being faster) of the H-X1025.
If you are looking for a “Wide” Zoom, I fully recommend the H-X1025. The all in one zoom design means that you can just have one fast lens for your wide needs. The convenience comes at the cost of size and weight.
