I upgraded from Quest 1 to 3 and I am so happy I did! Now I can really enjoy those standalone and PCVR games!
BTW, I love the MR feature a lot, like I can watch and pause YouTube videos on the browser with hand tracking while doing dishes 🤣.
Having used the Quest 2 for just over a year and there being nothing wrong with it, I didn't have very good reasons for purchasing a Quest 3. I was intrigued, however, with the promise of a slightly lighter-weight headset and the possibility of wider peripheral vision.
The set up was dead easy. Although I knew I'd be ordering an alternate headstrap eventually (I like the battery strap), the stock elastic strap worked out surprisingly well (particularly compared to the Q2 one which was useless to me). I like the ponytail hole (which I know won't work for everyone, but was perfect for me) and the adjustability as well as strength of hold (staying put) worked great.
Weirdly, I couldn't tell TOO much difference visually at first. I would have said things were a BIT crisper. But then I go back to my Q2 on occasion and it seems a visual struggle at times, leading me to believe the difference is more significant than I first thought.
All in all, the headset lived up to my expectations and then some. It's super comfortable, has a great battery life, has crisper visuals, and a wider field of vision.
If you're not strapped for cash, it's definitely a cool little luxury item to splurge on.
ironically the star rating system also doesn't seem to play well with high contrast browser mode XD
basically the technology is cool, and I had really looked forward to investigating development opportunities with my first ever VR headset, however; without the ability to zoom within applications, particularly with regards to text size, it's not particularly entertaining or useful to me personally given my vision challenges... which kinda sapped the fun out of the dev idea
Although the accessories are expensive and cheap I have no complaints about the quest 3. This unit is so much better than quest 2 I can over look the poor battery life. This unit rocks.
I went from a Rift S PCVR to this and it was a great upgrade in clarity. The lenses are great and super clear. I use Virtual Desktop to play my PCVR games, and even streaming they look better than the Rift S did connected directly.
While the render resolution for standalone games is still far from perfect, the positives outweigh the negative
Pass through is a comfort and ease of use gamechanger for bringing in new users, although I fear meta will change focus yet again. From VR gaming, to social, to business, now to MR. Meta support for PC gaming is now abandoned.
As a PCVR headset paired with Virtual Desktop, it is THE quintessential budget king PCVR headset, allowing for a much sharper resolution, vs. using it for its standalone functions. It is a shame Meta doesn't share the same sentiment exactly.
