I purchased these as part of a project to organize personal documents and archives in notebooks. They were easy to handle and sturdy enough to provide good protection.
For some reason the Staples Heavyweight Sheet Protectors unlike any other page protectors I have ever encountered are extremely difficult to open at first. There is something unusual in the manufacturing process that when the top/open ended cut is made it effectively seals the end. I've discovered a work around to get them open - if you put a piece of tape on both sides offset so they do not overlap and stick together then pull them apart it will easily open. Once these sleeves are opened the first time they remain unsealed and are easy for continued use. However if you want easy-to-open sleeves just buy some other brand (any other brand).
The quality has changed and now it is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING trying to insert papers as the inside is now 'tacky' or 'clingy' paper just sticks to it. They did not use to be like this something has changed...
While these sheet protectors seem like they will do the job for the long haul I will never buy them again as they are next to impossible to open. At first I thought there wasn't an opening at all and after much frustration Googled how to open them. Sure enough others have the same problem. I use a magnifying glass and the keep jabbing at each one with a paper clip until it finally opens. My husband couldn't believe how hard they were to open and said he would have thrown them away if it were him. I will use them as I don't like throwing away money but am sorely tempted to throw them out. I am truly blown away that there are so many good reviews on this product. In the future I will spend more and by the Avery product.
I utilize these to organize archive and protect my collection of first day of issue stamp covers and placards. The acid free nature is extreemly important and appreciated in this use as these artifacts will be stored indefinitley in this manner. The 3.3 mil. heavy weight is not offered in many products and provides the durability for which I was looking. This will also ensure that the covers will be more sturdy in notebooks and prevent any tearing of the hole punches which allow them to confidently be put in ring binders.
