I wanted to replace our old one since this one is beautifully compact. I didn't realize that the carafe/kettle had to be configured for a minimum of six people. I was trying to avoid having to make one at a time for me and my wife. We only drink one cup each but didn't want to be walking back and forth to get that going. The single cup version splatters everywhere, as the mug sits too low compared to the previous one. Basically, the only main advantage this had to the previous is its aesthetic design. The carafe ended up being useless for us. It's an okay coffee maker.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is an exceptional coffee maker. It has great features and brews a great cup of coffee. It is quiet, great light-up buttons, great water reservoir with a neat handle that makes it so much easier to fill, and it is an attractive addition to our kitchen countertop. Got this about three weeks in replacement of a similar maker that went bad. While it makes a de ent, flavorful cup of coffee, I often notice an abundance of coffee grounds in each cup. Very disconcerting.
