Great Machine!

I originally had a 929D and when it wore out and the authorized dealer wanted more to fix it than the cost of a new one, I decided to buy the 1034D (basically the same machine). I use it often as I sew things to sell at craft shows. I convert a lot of regular pattern to the serger, and it saves me a lot of time. I love it.

My husband surprised me with this serger and I really like it. It's easy to use and works really well. I love that it has a removable arm in order to serge sleeves. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a cutting width guide to sew perfectly consistent seam allowances. The only guides are several unmarked notches to the right of the needle. I find them difficult to use to get a consistent and exact seam allowance. If a movable cutting width guide was added to this machine, it'd be the perfect machine!

Learned it in no time!

This machine is super easy to use. I had a rush project to get done for a client presentation and I had to learn this machine in less than a week. I used a beginner craftsy class and the manual and just went for it and the results were super cute. I later added a grommet and put them on a large ring for display in the store. Customers could then flip through and pick a desired style.

I am very pleased with my new serger. My old brother serger just gave out. It was only 35 plus years old. My new one came with the gathering foot ( I haven't tried it yet ) and the hemming foot. That one is great, I used it to shorten the sleeves on my daughter's new shirt. I have since ordered the elastic foot and it will be here very soon. I just can't wait for everyone to leave me alone and let me use my new machine. I also have a regular sewing machine by Brother and did have another but gave it to a 12 year old friend that was interested in learning to sew. Brother is a wonderful brand. Oh, I forgot my Brother fax machine.

Happy to have a serger like the 1034D

I have no previous serger experience, but have been a longtime sewist and wanted one for better project finish and sewing knits. Strong reviews and a good price point led me to choose the Brother 1034D. It's been very direct to use. Instructions have been thorough, and videos (on the CDs or on the internet) have helped as well. I've been able to thread the machine by reading the directions and following the color-coded dots, and have used the 4-stitch overlock to finish seams and sew stretch fabric, as well as doing a rolled hem (removing the stitch finger and using suggested settings) to make cloth napkins for gifts. Very happy with my purchase and the Brother product. Enjoying what a serger can do for my sewing projects. Thanks!
