Unreal Battery Life

I did a 27 hour ride (literally) and I ended it with 50% battery. I also love the new home page layout

I bought 1040 Solar ,a couple days a go ,I had a fall and activated the emergency systems did not send the alert to my contacts and the screen was forced ,its took 5 minutes for it to reset...

Great bike computer

I upgraded to an Edge 1040 Solar from an Edge 820, which I used for 5-6 years. I love having a bigger screen, where I can show up to 10 data fields at once. I also love that I don't need to charge it after every ride or worry about whether the battery will last to the end of a longer ride.

Excellent Overall

I have used the 1040 Solar for the past month and have zero issues. I love the solar piece. Maps are accurate and I love the post ride data--tells you all you need to know and then some. This is a great unit as are all Garmin units that I have now or have owned in the past.

The Garmin you’ve been waiting for!

I’m no stranger to Garmin and have used their devices for over 15 years. This is the best cycling computer they have ever made and it finally has the battery life (thanks to solar) that it needs. Paired with the Varia rear light it’s the best combo available.

Garmin once again releases a product when the software is not fully developed. I really like some of the new features the software offers, but what makes it stand out among all the other head units is also the most frustrating. I wish Garmin would take their cycling department as seriously as their aviation department. Until Garmin makes stable software, either wait till the bugs are out, or get a different brand.

Upgrade from the Edge 1000

Love the 1040 solar. Larger screen and type size is an excellent improvement. The overall layout and availability of options is excellent. Excellent upgrade.
Not sure the value of the solar option. I gain in power is very small compared to overall use. That said the battery seems to be better, although I have not had a long enough ride to adequately yet

Great Upgrade from Edge1000 with Varia RCT715

I purchased the Varia RCT715 earlier this summer and I was pleased with it but my Edge 1000 didn't control the photo function. With the Edge 1040 Solar, the link is great. I ride on Mulholland Drive and it gives me comfort to know that I am getting a video record of the vehicle passing me. Hopefully, those drivers will learn that they are being recorded. Maybe Garmin will see this advertising campaign. Mulholland has lots of curves so drivers need to pay attention. The Solar recovers only 10% as I ride need sunrise.
