Best Unit on the Market

I have used the 1040 solar for the last few months on a mix of road and gravel rides. The unit works exactly as advertised, excellent battery life and a very clear screen no matter the weather. The routing works well on a mix of trails and public roads. It integrated with my power meter pedals very easily, and provides real-time power level data. I used it for 160 miles of road riding this weekend and it was great to have. I could quickly swipe to see upcoming rest stops for the ride, and then immediately back to the map to show my upcoming turn by turn directions. The battery life is also excellent.

Great product

I've used Garmin Edge products for years. While the 1040 is a little pricey, if your needs are for travel, the mapping features, extra battery life and screen size are well worth the long term investment. Love the transition to USB C and metal mount as well.

Great upgrade from the 1030, which was also very good. Screen information and data is presented well and brighter. The controls are more intuitive. Mapping is clearer. It's just a good bike computer.

This 1040 solar replaces my 1030 Edge. The graphics and navigation are significantly improved. I enjoy the extra range that the solar charging allows, although you pay for the privilege. As expected, the integration with other Garmin accessories (cadence, radar) is excellent.

I’ve had a chance to ride with it for a couple of weeks now. Not certain what I feel about the new UI. New fonts and colors are good. Not happy that it keeps asking me to set up Di2 buttons when they have been set up already.

Makes Navigating Self-Guided Adventures Easier

Being more of an adventure rider, I love the ability to build a route and pan and scan the map when you're unsure where the next turn is or if something blocks your way — like a washed-out road or private property. Beyond all of the expected quality features of a Garmin, having the solar to keep the battery topped up is a huge benefit for those back-to-back long days too.

Awesome Bike Computer

I previously used the 530, and upgraded to the 1040. It is a great bike computer. I love the bigger display and the amount of data it provides. The touch screen with the ability to swipe and touch as opposed to button navigation of the smaller 530 is helpful while riding, particularly when on my mountain bike. I'm still exploring all of the features. The only challenge I have has been to discover how to use all of these features, which are many.

Was not a big fan of Garmin in the past. I've had Garmin, Wahoo and Karoo computers. Both Wahoo and Karoo were more user friendly but the new interface on the Garmin is great and the battery life is second to none. The solar charging has added 10-20 min an hour during use over the winter interested to see what it does in the summer
