Hello,
We are sorry to hear about your user experience with My Passport External Hard Drive and appreciate your time providing this review and bringing this matter to our attention.
Based on your concern, if the drive is not showing up on the computer then it could be due to insufficient power supply to the drive for operation. To isolate the cause of the drive failure, it is recommended to connect the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer and check the drive for any damage or defect by following the information provided in the link below.
"How to check an internal drive for defects, problems, corruption, or a power issue": https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15514
The best practice is to run diagnostics with WD Drive Utilities when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. We recommend avoiding USB hubs for external hard drives and therefore connect the drive directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. We have placed a few helpful links below providing more information for your convenience.

"Windows or macOS Cannot Find My Drive": https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12455
If the test is unfortunately inconclusive, you can create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty if necessary.

"Disk Not Ejected Properly" 20 times a day...
on December 19, 2021

This is the second WD Mac passport that has failed after about a year. This time, I get the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" message and the icon flies off the screen even when I didn'tdo a shutdown or any kind and it won't do a backup when it is cycling like this. I went online and checked and tried 2 or 3 fixes but none worked. So, should I buy a 3rd one? Probably not! I didn't give it a zero because my hard drive failed after buying my first WD and it worked as advertised restoring my laptop!

Unfortunately this product failed on me within the first month I used it. My PC could no longer recognize the drive and I could not access my files. Ended up costing me a lot of money to get a professional data recovery done by a local shop, very disappointing.

Hi Kevv,
We're sorry to hear about your experience with WD My Passport Portable External Hard Drive and appreciate your time for providing the review. There can a few causes due to which the drive has stopped working. Such causes include the faulty USB port of the drive or the computer, faulty USB cable of the drive or the drive itself may not be getting enough power to spin up and register on the computer to show up. Unsafe ejection of the drive during any read or write operation can also result in the corruption of the drive's partition.
