Staples ARE flat takes full-strip of staples easy to press. Only wish it could stand vertically.

Very pleased with this model. To load the staples press down on the lever at back and the tray forcefully pops out. If you accidentally push it the tray opens. But now I am careful and no more problems. Recommend they revise the model to stand up on its own horizontally to save space on the desk. I bought the smaller model to keep in my car for work on-the-job.

I use at least a strip of staples a week. This jams 50% of the time so I need to dig out the documents trying not to tear the pages as one side tends to get "stuck". I use the Staples brand staples on this stapler so it isn't a mixed brand problem. Doesn't matter the quantity being stapled 2 pages just as bad as 15. Raraely have I stapled 20 pages. Do yourself a favor and buy a different stapler - I will.
