Our internet was poor at our local fire station in South Florida. we were using a combination of 3 old Wi-Fi routers, one main and two set up as access points. I believe one was even a Wi-Fi 4 model so they struggled with 12 people on shift with an average of two devices each person connected to the Wi-Fi both in terms of coverage and speed. Our speeds were 6 mbps down and 1 up so it was a terrible experience until we finally upgraded to this Orbi RBK753S and upgraded our ISP service. We decided to purchase three sets so we have 5 satellites currently connected to one main unit all via Ethernet since the fire station is wired for various purposes and two spare main RBR routers and one RBS satellite not in use as backups. The Netgear Orbi mesh unit has yet to go down and we installed back in January of 2023. Currently have 28 devices connected and receiving on average 150 mbps down and 30 mbps up. Couldn’t recommend this Orbi system more. It even goes beyond covering residential home use and could be used for industrial/small business use such as a local fire station. Easy setup, took less than an hour for our particular setup. And we can now watch Netflix and stream music where as before we were lucky to even be able to send a work email.

Super fast.... but Netflix doesnt work

I purchased and couldnt be an easier installation. Speeds are as advertised. Coverage is as advertised. Super fast system. No complaints on the actual wifi portion. Biggest ISSUE BY FAR is that the system does not stream Netflix.
I have roku, firesticks, chromecast, chrome books, windows and apple systems running in my house. (I know... pick a tech .... right?)
Orbi streams Netfix on none of them. I know it is the Orbi.... I streamed fine prior, and when I hook my Nighthawk back in, Netflix streams again. Even tried to hardwire to orbi router to my TV / lap top with cat 7 communication cable. Spent tens of hours over a month on the phone and online with tech support. No resolution.
Busy because work from home... COVID....etc.... tech support ran out.
I purchased this very expensive system to streaming wireless to all my TVs instead of having cable boxes. It does not do that. (RBK753)
This Orbi system is garbage.
Note: Using netgear C1100 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable modem. Should be no speed or integration issues. Also, additional antivirus software (non netgear) is not easily loaded. Netgear wants you to only use theirs. Dont pay, network is more open to hackers.

Does the job

Have been using the 753 model (router + 2 satellites) in a 3 story 4200 ft. home for 4 days. Very satisfied. There was a slight learning curve to position the satellites in their optimal location to increase strength of signal. One clue: The Orbi app includes a wifi speed test that only measures the speed from your provider to the router. This is misleading because what we all want to know is how much signal is reaching the devices we are using. By using the wifi speed app provided by your wifi provider on your phone, tablet or laptop, you will get an actual mps reading to the device you are using, which will help you better more optimally position your router and satellites.

A concerning lack of customizability
on October 26, 2020

You are forced to use a combined SSID: you can't split out the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels. Among causing other problems, this means that if you have smart devices and other "Internet of Things" devices you may struggle to get them connected.
There are no QoS (Quality of Service) options: if you want to be able to prioritize certain devices (such as a gaming pc over a tv streaming Netflix), or at least tell the router what your internet speed is so it can divide it up properly, you'll get none of that with this router. The only thing you can do with the QoS is have the router "automatically" detect your bandwidth to try to divide it up properly using its own secret algorithms. Except the router cant detect bandwidth properly. Mine decided that I get 400 mbps down (a gross overestimation) and 10 mbps up (a gross underestimation), so the QoS isn't working right whatsoever.
Want to set up a daisy-chain of the satellites? You can... but you have to trick the satellites into connecting to each other instead of to the router, through strategic placement and an unreliable process.
Want to telnet or SSH into the router for further customization? Nope.
And these are just the points I feel I need to call out because if you read about other Orbi routers, or Nighthawk routers (both Netgear products) or even read a slightly older manual for this product online you may think you'll have these options. But they do not exist anymore. Netgear is gutting the customizability of its routers.
I would not recommend this router to anyone until they do a massive overhaul to the firmware.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your review. The smart connect is a feature that can not be disabled on the Orbi but there are ways around some devices connecting to one band over another. We will link a resource from our community that might help your situation: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Best-way-to-add-2-4-gHz-ONLY-devices-to-Orbi-mesh-network/m-p/1737886

Otherwise a good system, but having no parental controls at this price point is super disappointing. Keep promising with no schedule is no good. Returning back to the store!

Hi SJ519,
Thank you for the feedback. We will be releasing a firmware update with parental controls for Orbi Wifi 6 soon.
Thank you.

The Wi-Fi solution for a dumb home.

This was great for the first couple of months. Then it had a software update which causes my nest thermostat battery to drain. I have to take my thermostat off the wall and charge it every other day at least. It’s been a known issue that netgear is aware but for whatever reason hasn’t/won’t fix. For a “premium” Wi-Fi experience I would expect better. So smart home users look elsewhere

Returning due to absence of Circle

Netgear did a disservice to customers by suggesting their entire Orbi range had Disney Circle. The AX4200 does not. I am returning the Orbi and will keep using the Nighthawk due to this issue. I also noticed that the internet in our office shed was worse compared to the AC1900 Nighthawk. I hope Netgear addresses this, or I see no reason to continue to stick to their products.

No parental or individual device control

There isn't a native parental control or the ability to individually manage devices on the platform. Will be returning the device for others in the same price range that has the software options to support the price point.

Hi Car862,
We will be releasing smart parental controls for the Orbi Wifi6 through a firmware update. For now, chapter 4 of the user manual reviews the options to control access to the internet. https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBK752/RBK752_UM_EN.pdf
