Paper Tray loading hassles

No doubt that this and the other 4 Epson photo printers I've had thru the years print incredible 8.5x11 color photos, but one thing in this model is a major drawback & thats the Paper Tray access.
Extremely difficult to place a single sheet of 8.5x11 Epson photo paper or business card stock correctly in the Paper Tray so that it is grabbed properly. All the other 4 Epson Photo printers I've had have very easy accessible Photo Trays or methods of loading paper. With this model you must pull out the Tray, load the paper & then push the Tray back into the printer. Then, 4 out of 5 times the paper is not correctly aligned. I've tried to print placing the sheet on top of a stack of 25 ordinary sheets, 10 sheets, as well as placing the Specialty photo paper or card stock with no stack of ordinary paper underneath it. It adds to the frustration because you have to remove Tray, then place Specialty paper in Tray hoping this time you've got it right, and then reload the Tray, go back to your computer (which is not next to printer) & start print process all over again. If Specialty paper or Photo paper isn't exactly aligned correctly, well start all over again. A real hassle. I still haven't figured what's best. Single sheet, on top of 25 plain sheets, 10, 5, 2? Have wasted a lot of ink & paper & time! Constantly reloading Tray is a big drag. When its loaded correctly, and I still don't know what correctly is, then I have a wonderful print. I cannot recomend this printer with this loading & alignment problem.

A solid All-In-One Printer

I replaced my Epson R280 with this Artisan 725-Arctic Edition and am very pleased with the results. The photo print quality is excellent and all printing operations are fast. The ink cartridges are also cheaper than the R280 cartridges. The copy and scan features work well, as does CD/DVD printing. The CDs and DVDs I have printed have been centered exactly without any adjustment. The only negatives are the paper tray, which is very delicate and sometimes misfeeds photo paper, and the instruction pamphlet that ships with the printer, which is simply inadequate. If the paper tray was more robust and the instruction pamphlet more detailed, I would have given the Artisan 725 a 5-star rating.

3 Problems: #1 Ink cartridges run out fast, and can't be refilled without lots of trouble. #2. screen. One must always go to "Print preview" and adjust the % so that stuff doesn't get cut off. #3. Smallest photo that can be printed is 3.5X5.

Fantastic AIO Printer

I unboxed the printer by laying the box on its side as recommended by the instructions printed on the box. There is some weight to the printer, so doing it this makes it easier.
I followed the quick setup instructions to the letter and everything worked flawlessly. I loaded the paper tray with standard white letter size paper and had some Epson 4x6 Premium photo paper, so I installed that in the paper tray too. The tray will hold letter/legal size, and also 4x6 or 5x7 photo paper in two different tray slots.
I didn't connect a USB cable, instead opting to use straight wifi. I went to the setup on the printer control panel and the printer detected my wireless router ssid, so I selected that router and entered the wpa2 password. The printer did its thing, and about a minute later it was ready.
I installed the included software and drivers on my Windows computers, selecting that I had already configured the printer for my wifi network. The printer software installed flawlessly and found the printer via the wifi connection.
I printed a test page and it worked. I printed a photo I had on my desktop and it worked. I scanned a coupon I had laying around, and it worked. I used the printer as a copier using the flatbed scanner to copy an invoice, and it worked. It just works.
It prints fast too. I also have an Epson Stylus Photo 900 printer that I bought years ago (and it still works fine), but it is very slow compared to the Artisan 725. It would take a few minutes to print a standard quality 4x6 photo on photo paper. It takes less than 15 seconds on the Artisan. A real time saver.
The CD print function worked flawlessly too. I opened one of my old Epson Print CD files, loaded a CD, and printed on it without doing any changes or calibration. It worked.
I downloaded the Epson iPrint app for my iPhone 3GS running IOS 5. It works too. Printed a few photos from my iPhone Camera Roll and selected the correct paper size (4x6) and type, and it worked.
Oh, after installing the included software and drivers for my Intel Mac running Snow Leopard, it worked flawlessly over wifi (printing and scanning) in addition to my Windows PCs. Need more be said?

First of all it is not white but pale grey!
This computer is for home use, really hobby use to make cards, templates and fun art items.
First problem is using scanner from the printer screen. I bought it to be wireless and it works wireless when I go into Corel PSP software and the computer contacts the printer. In fact it is fast and excellent. When scanning from printer using the printer display, the printer display flashes to "USB connection" on the printer screen. For it to scan from printer, the USB must be connected. Epson does not make card stock and i cannot find out if it is OK to use, as it jammed every time. I finally decided to load it with plain paper and put a sheet of card stock on top. This appears to work OK.
Downloading the updates was confusing. It does not say if you need all of them or just one of them. Possibly leading to- in printers and devises on my computer it lists it as an Artisan 720 network and there was no information about it in the advanced section of properties so it is not possible to stop it printing a blank sheet. Nor is this in the FAQ.
I gave 3 stars because the automated support is inadequate and cumbersome to use. At this stage i cannot be sure if it will crater because of the use of card stock or some issue in the control panel.

BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK

When it comes to my making a computer related purchase I usually ask my IT friends. This time I did it on my own. Got the printer directly from EPSON. Only reason I did this was it wasn't available near the price I paid EPSON. I try to make my purchases with local suppliers. When I received the printer and looked at all the features I got a little afraid that I purchased something that was technically over my head. Then I looked at the quick guide. I then connected it to my desktop computer via the USB port. The computer found the printer and the I got it to print photos and letters in no time. I then tried the auto two side printing, it worked. My next challange was to set it up for a wireless connection to my notebook. This was something I always had a problem with. Well I was surprised. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. Anyone that can't run this printer via USB or WIRELESS should relax and reread the instructions. Thanks EPSON

This printer has very nice color rendition. The paper management, however is frustrating. The paper goes into a cassette that holds regular paper and a separate area holds small pieces of photo paper for 4x6 prints etc. The printer tends to pick up more than one piece of paper at a time, and sometimes it will pick up a piece of photo paper instead of a regular piece of paper. This is especially aggrevating when printing checks from accounting software, because then you have the wrong check numbers on unless you feed them one at a time, which is really a hassle when you have to pull out the cassette everytime you put a piece of paper in. We have purchased many Epson printers and this is the first time I wish I had kept the packing materials so that I could send it back. This model is not suitable for everyday, office printing.
