Almost perfect!

I have ordered these on the first day they are available and received today. Used these headphones for few hours explored all the options and sturdy levels etc., over all these headphones again falls in premium category just like XM5 for sure and remains as top tier in ANC headphones category….materials feels little more premium compared to XM5…sound quality improved a lot with that punch bass and well detailed sound…headband feels comfortable compared to XM5…ear cushions feels comfortable as well for longer use in travels etc., …only thing I felt downside is the ear cups not the ear cushions…we can detach the ear cups and replacement with new but Sony could have used design like AirPods Max and Sonos Ace magnetic detach and attach option…once you detach the ear cups all the drivers inside wires are visible not covered with any of other plastic layer…and the under layer clothe used in ear pads is very thin can easily tears off in normal use. These could feel like nitpicking reasons but as these falls in premium headphones and expensive category everything comes into consideration….this was the downside I felt ear-cups design could have been better…apart from this reason I felt all other check points passes…case is well built with magnet closer option and very sturdy to project headphones. Overall if you don’t care on the downside I mentioned, these headphones can be considered for any occasion and mainly if looking for top notch ANC feature and premium quality sound.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hi Bharat R,
Thank you so much for sharing your detailed feedback after receiving your WH-1000XM6 headphones! It is truly wonderful to know that you feel they fall into the premium category, just like the XM5 and remain a top-tier choice for ANC. We really appreciate you noticing the more premium feel of the materials and the improvements in sound quality, especially the punchy bass and detailed sound.

It's also great to hear that you find the headband and ear cushions comfortable for longer use, like during travel. We acknowledge your thoughts regarding the ear cup design and the visibility of the internal components when detached. Your feedback about the thin under-layer cloth in the ear pads is also valuable. We always aim to refine our designs and your insights are really helpful for future considerations.

We're glad you appreciate the well-built case with the magnetic closure. Thank you again for your comprehensive review and for highlighting the excellent ANC and premium sound quality.

Thank you for choosing Sony!
Best regards,
Stephanie

Best in class, hands down

After rave reviews, purchased the new Sony 1000XM6 - definitely a high end product in materials and quality. The case is sturdy and very portable, which I appreciate for airplane travel. The app is easy to use and functions and settings are a breeze to set up. Sound is fabulous, various EQ settings allow adjustment to personal and music tastes. Music sounds open, clear, with detailed mids and highs that are never sibilant, bass is powerful and not muddy. The headphones sit very comfortably and clamping forces are just right. ANC is simply jaw dropping! Gesture controls on the right cup are intuitive and easy, but I wish the annoying confirmation ding for volume and track selection could be switched off completely and not end at - 2, that's my only gripe, really

Very satisfied Guy! Xm6 Thumbs up!

This is my first time trying out the headphone side of things with Sony. I’ve tried the xm4 earbuds, that were ok but call quality sucked. I jumped ship and bought Bose quietcomfort earbuds when they released. I loved the Bose earbuds but they had the same issue. Terrible call quality too. I heard a lot about the xm5 headphones, right as I was about to finally purchase the xm5s the Xm6s ended up releasing so I gave them a try. I love these headphones! Great ANC and call quality finally! The sound profile is pretty good but I can’t say it’s the best I’ve heard. I can say it’s very solid and well rounded though. I wish the headphones didn’t smudge so easily tho. I have the black ones. All in all I don’t have any complaints or regrets!

Almost the best ever!(pinched by spring on hinges)

I'm including a pic so you can see how I fixed the comfort issues I was having because of the spring-loaded hinges on the ear cups. I'm really disappointed that Sony decided to reinvent instead of keep free-floating hinges on the ear cups like every other headphone out there in existence!!
Other than that glaring mishap these are the best sounding headphones out there for music... which makes it truly a shame.... hopefully with the XM7 they can return to free floating hinges and give us just a little more room to breathe in the earcups, perhaps take a lesson from Bose or Bowers bc they do it very very well.

Thank you for taking the time to share your incredibly detailed feedback on the WH-1000XM6. We sincerely appreciate you sending us a picture of your solution, and we're truly sorry to hear that the design of the ear cup hinges has caused comfort issues. This is not the experience we aim to deliver.

We understand your frustration with the changes from previous models, and your insights are invaluable. Our engineering team is always working on improving our products, and we'll be sure to pass your specific comments about the spring-loaded hinges and the need for more room in the ear cups directly to them. We take all feedback seriously as it helps guide future product design.

We are so pleased, however, to hear that you consider these to be the "best sounding headphones out there for music." That truly means a lot to us. We collaborated with world-renowned audio engineers to deliver unparalleled sound clarity and precision, ensuring you can feel every detail and beat in your music.

Thank you for being such a dedicated Sony customer and for sharing your honest experience. We hope you continue to enjoy the music.

Last only 1 month for me.
on January 28, 2026

I bought the sonyxm6s about 3 months ago and after a couple of weeks after I bought them I started to notice that the noise cancellation was getting worse. When I did some research, mostly it was about human brain adapting to it. So I was like ok, but it’s been two weeks that when I turn them off and then on there is no difference, I hear everyone clearly and there is no difference when they are off or on. I had high expectations from these headphone. There is also creaking noise coming from the top part of the head band, which is very annoying to someone like me that walks a lot from having headphone on. I know that the sound quality is great but paying 450 for them to last about 1 month is absolutely ridiculous.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We are truly sorry to hear that your experience with your WH-1000XM6 headphones has been so frustrating. We understand that when you invest in a premium product, you expect premium performance to last. Hearing that the Noise Canceling has become ineffective and that you're experiencing a creaking noise in the headband is certainly not the experience we want for you.

While it's true that the "brain adaptation" effect is a real phenomenon, it should never result in zero difference between the Noise Canceling being ON or OFF. This, combined with the physical creaking you described, suggests your unit may require a closer look by our technical team.

We would love to help get these back to the "industry-leading" standard you expected. Please try these two quick steps to see if they resolve the software side of things:

Initialize the Headphones: With the headphones turned off, press and hold the Power and NC/AMB buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds. This restores factory settings.

Check the Sony | Headphones Connect App: Ensure the "Adaptive Sound Control" isn't accidentally switching your settings to "Ambient Sound" mode based on your movement.

If these steps don't improve the NC performance, or to address the headband noise, please reach out to our support team so we can look into your warranty options: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones

We value your loyalty and want to make this right.

Unwelcome startle
on January 31, 2026

Hi there, I wanted to give a review since it appears you actually read them. I actually think the noise cancellation works incredibly well- the only headphones that have blocked out bass music I hear from living above a restaurant. I was, initially, so grateful. However, I had 2 experiences where the headphones spontaneously connected to another persons device and while sleeping, woke me up abruptly. In addition to these 2 experiences, when the headphones are dying, they insist on letting you know- loudly signaling you to you they are on low battery. For someone who wants to use headphones for quiet and to fall asleep-- it's a horrible startle to be reawaken by the headphones themselves. I'm now too scared to use them again. If these issues can be fixed, I'm open to your feedback and would write a new review. Thanks!

Hi HelpinSF,
Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your experience with the WH-1000XM6 headphones. We're really glad to hear that the noise cancellation is working well for you and helping to block out the bass music. At the same time, we’re sorry to hear about the issues you’ve faced with the headphones connecting to another device unexpectedly and the loud low battery alerts that disturbed your sleep.

To help with the connection issue, you can try turning off the feature that allows the headphones to connect to two devices at the same time. You can do this by opening the Sony | Sound Connect app on your phone, going to the system settings, and switching off the option for multipoint connection. This should prevent the headphones from switching to someone else’s device without your control.

Regarding the loud low battery alerts, while there isn’t a way to completely turn off the notifications, you can lower the volume of the voice guidance in the app. This can make the alerts less startling, especially when you’re trying to sleep.

We hope these suggestions enhance your experience. If you continue to have any issues, please reach out to Sony Support using the contact information below.

We appreciate your willingness to update your review once these issues are resolved. Thanks again for choosing Sony and sharing your feedback.
Warm regards,
Estefany

Disappointed, I can still hear most outside noises

I think these are overpriced... I can still hear everything even with the noise cancelling on, it just sounds a little muffled, but I can have conversations with people without a problem. I can even still hear people outside my home while wearing them. And yes, the ANC is on 100%.
My earplugs work better for noise reduction.

Don't buy these if you plan to use them for work
on August 15, 2025

Sony released an update several months ago that broke the ability to use these headphones in meetings. Any other audio that plays stops any audio/mic usage in a zoom/teams/whatsapp meeting until you reconnect them. It's been months with only no-info HR style responses. Several months without fixing a critical bug, wouldn't buy from Sony again, unfortunately they bricked my headset with this update after my return window.

Hi Dgrove153,

We're truly sorry to hear about the difficulties you've been experiencing with your Sony - WH1000XM6 headphones. We understand how important reliable audio and microphone performance is during meetings, and we want to help get this resolved.

Here are a few steps that can help restore proper functionality:

2- If you're doing video/phone calls on your computer - Please ensure that on the microphone setting of your computer or app is selected (WH-1000XM6 Hands-Free) or (WH-1000XM6).

3- Confirm that the microphone setting is enabled in the Sony Headphones Connect app - Open the app, go to My device > Device settings > System.

4- Perform a factory reset - If the issue continues, we recommend resetting the headphones. You can find the step-by-step instructions here:
