Great watch

I bought this about a month ago and I'm really impressed with the quality, the options, and the way it works, it's amazing what you can do with it. It is a bit complicated to work and does take some time to learn but it's a great watch and will do almost anything.

Leaves you wanting more…

Good but with the expectation it’s underwhelming.
Fenix 6 - Fenix 6x - Fenix 7x - Apple Watch Ultra 3 - Fenix 8 solar 51 - to this. Experienced all. Looks great, limited experience with the confusing mobile package. The awu3 is just easier to use. The health tracking is always superior on the garmin but compatibility with iPhone and just ease of use and flow is clunky.
Disappointed in the battery too. AWU3 gets 2+ days always on this will get ~5? Maybe which at the end of the day…idk. I have it as not always on but that only last ~8/9 days with an activity almost every day. Far reach from the solar and prior Fenix models. When you compare the compatibility of the awu3 at 2 days battery + smart features vs this with ~5 days worse compatibility and smart feature but better health tracking…id go with an older Fenix/epix/enduro and pair it with a cheaper Apple Watch to get connectivity misses. Idk disappointed but if you want 1 watch it does the job and has a better battery life especially if you have always on - off.

Converting from a apple watch user for many years
on August 7, 2026

I bought this watch a month ago, have been an Apple user for the last 6-7 years, and so far, I like the Garmin 8 Pro's AMOLED display. Lots to learn about the functions it has to offer, but from day to day use, I really enjoy it so far, and love that I don't have to charge it but every 10 days or so. I noticed that the specs note that the 47mm can last 15 days or so, and that maybe the case if you don't get notices, texts, etc. But I do, and it only lasts about 9-10 days of charge on mine.

Pixel replacement
on July 24, 2026

Bought this a month ago to replace my Pixel Watch 4 LTE. I have been very happy with the watch, it can do everything my Pixel was doing and so much more. Works seamlessly with my Pixel 10 Pro XL phone.

Battery life is amazing. Still learning how to use it. So many great features on it. Flashlight came in clutch already. Going to buy another just for work so I don’t ruin this one.

Phone-Free inReach
on July 22, 2026

Upgraded from the Forerunner 945 because I wanted a watch with inReach technology. I have an inReach Mini 2 paired with my Forerunner 945 but on the day I really needed it I forgot it at home. Never again, now my Fenix 8 Pro can call 911 over LTE even if I'm 7 miles from the trailhead and badly hurt. My testing shows that the Fenix 8 Pro's satellite features are NOT as good as the inReach Mini 2, so I will keep them both and use the real inReach device as a backcountry back up.
In terms of watch features, it is way better than the Forerunner and obviously deserves Garmin's designation as their S-tier running watch. The battery life is good, but not great on the 47mm. Far better than the Forerunner but I am still charging it every few days with a 40m/week workload.

It’s a process

I bought this watch to upgrade my life/exercise data from the Apple. A lot of the presentations don’t apply to me as I don’t want a workout plan. I have one. I’m 73 yo and some of the analysis doesn’t apply to me. It may to some of the 73 yo guys but not me. Regardless learning all the buttons and when to push is a learning curve. But paired with my inreach and my 1030. I think I’ll get better guidance. It hasn’t been a month.
