It’s a process

I bought this watch to upgrade my life/exercise data from the Apple. A lot of the presentations don’t apply to me as I don’t want a workout plan. I have one. I’m 73 yo and some of the analysis doesn’t apply to me. It may to some of the 73 yo guys but not me. Regardless learning all the buttons and when to push is a learning curve. But paired with my inreach and my 1030. I think I’ll get better guidance. It hasn’t been a month.

Best one yet

Pick this up to replace my epic Gen 2. I wanted a watch that would have the built-in SOS in reach service. This one fits the bill. Exercising everyday I still get approximately 7 days of battery life with GPS.. Even though this is on the expensive side it's worth it to me.

Fenix 8 Screen Freezes During Workouts and Display
on July 20, 2026
Posted by: Eduardo Pires
I purchased my Garmin Fenix 8 in February 2026, and since then it has been experiencing frequent screen freezes during workouts. This is very disruptive because I have to restart the watch every time it happens, interrupting my exercise and affecting the tracking of my activities.
The issue occurs every day, as I work out daily. Now, in addition to the recurring screen freezes, the display has become corrupted, as shown in the attached photo.
I believe this is not normal behavior for a premium device that is only a few months old. I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue, whether through troubleshooting, repair, or replacement under warranty.

From Fenix 8 to Pro
on July 14, 2026

Primary reason for the rating is due to the cost. The Fenix 8 Pro offers a brighter screen and more responsive screen and buttons. Coming from a Fenix 8 it’s definitely noticeable. Another ding is the lack of trade in program.
Longer warranty would also be valuable option.

Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, 47mm

I bought this as a retirement gift to myself. It's not my first Garmin, and I need to explore all the built in features. The flashlight is awesome and very handy. Been using this watch for monitoring my activities and improving my fitness level. Haven't activated my free inReach, but will do so soon. The battery lasts for 15 days and this is the main reason I bought it. My Apple Ultra doesn't even last a day. And my Samsung Galaxy Watch lasts 2-3 days.

A most excellent watch. Continuing to learn more about it but each day has a positive surprise. Amazing what they have made this watch capable of doing.

Very good, but satellite connection unreliable
on July 4, 2026

The only complaint so far is really satellite connectivity. Tried to use Garmin Msgr to check in with home camping out in a remote area of the TX/US w/o phone coverage and while I could get it to connect, I could not get it to send. Using satellite connection at home it had worked in testing. Tried many times, and in the end my iPhone was able to send a message using a satellite connection. Since this was a key reason for buying the Fenix 8 Pro, that was disappointing. Perhaps because the Fenix uses the Iridium network while Apple uses Globalstar?
The other thing I find annoying is that I now have a bunch of different Garmin subscription and for Connect+, InReach, Maps+, etc, which even seem to overlap a bit. Having a single package would be preferable.
However, I am generally very happy with the Fenix 8. I upgraded from a very old Forerunner 245, and even though I had no real complaints with the FR245, I find it, after a month of use, a massive step forward in terms of usability. The cellular connection, allows communication (with a paid plan) and gets LiveTrack to work immediately (it was useless on the ForeRunner unless you brought a phone). The touchscreen is good, and there is a Lot of very useful data available without much fuss. The display is bright and works well in all kinds of conditions. Was perhaps expecting a bit more battery life, and while there are good options to manage that, they also limit some (for me key) functionality.
