Great for Physical Therapy to Workouts!

When I was younger, I was an athlete, but as I got older and my health deteriorated, I had to slow down. I developed Fibromyalgia and walking became my only source of exercise. Then when my back went out on me and I became disabled, I was down to doing nothing except for PT. But I couldn't do just any PT. One of the places I went to for PT had a Total Gym (larger than the XLS) and I LOVED IT! I am able to do low-impact exercises at a rate that doesn't over-do it for my back or Fibromyagia, and still get my heart rate up as needed. I can work my upper body without hurting my back. It is great! My husband who lifts weights and works out, loves the Total Gym XLS as well. He also has back problems due to an old injury from a car crash years ago. So, this is perfect for him too! To us, it isn't that easy to store. It is too heavy for me to handle, so we leave it up all the time. But, I would rather have it sturdy like it is and set up all the time than to be flimsy and easier to handle. [...]

Great all-around machine!

I am impressed with the overall quality of the machine as well as the range of motion I get with each rep. Unlike some machines that utilize bows, the resistance remains constant from top to bottom of each motion. I didn't think by looking at the degree of slant that I would get as much resistance as I do. Putting the board at the highest level proved to offer more than enough resistance. However, one improvement I would make is I would put the instructional cards in a spiral binder so they don't get out of order. I have no regrets with purchasing this product.

Smooth operator

I bought this unit to help me recover faster from a hip revision, i lost a lot of muscle and flex ability, and any impact on my leg really hurts this machine works very-well low or no impact if used correctly, smooth operation I would of liked to seen better assembly instructions because it wasn't fully assembled when delivered due to carrier not total gym.

It took me a couple weeks to get it out of the box, but I finally checked out the intro video and started using it and haven't stopped. I use it daily when I an home (now for about 6 weeks)and have withdrawal when I travel. I'm still using and enjoy the initial workout once a day, but have added a few exercises. It gives me a good workout--I still can't believe how well it works!--and the fact that it is so easy to set up/put away , and the fact that you can move from one exercise to another so quickly are BIG pluses!
