best decision i ever made

I had trouble getting it set up at first. After I used it a few times I noticed that it became easier in the set up because I had already began to build muscle. Now I show off my new found muscles every chance I get. This has been a great confidence booster.

I use my Total Gym a minimum of 4 days a week. My goal is to keep from losing my strength and muscle tone. I love the core exercises. They are so easy to do.

Just what I wanted

I've been looking at this for 2 years and finally did it and am so glad I did. I have a free gym membership that I never use (paid for one for several years that I didn't use either), but think about all the time. With the total gym at home, I can finally find the time to exercise. We decided to convert a spare room into the exercise room that we could keep closed to avoid any mishaps with kids or critters. Again, a timesaver for me having it set up ready to go at any time. I recommend wathching the DVD for the set up instructions rather than following the written ones. Had we done that first, it would have gone better - it was also late and we were tired, so it is very likely it was just us. I have the XLS and the quality seems great; sturdy and smooth. I could feel the stretching and toning right away, although sadly I had to start at the lowest position. The good news is that it is designed to go from whimp on up. I enjoy the way I'm feeling after I exercise and actually look forward to it. The exercise cards are also fantastic for someone like me who hasn't worked out formally in 20 years. I took weight training in college, but I've forgotten a lot - so had my muscles. The one thing I think would help with the cards is to show the muscle you should be feeling during the exercise- it tells you, but again, who remembers some of these things. Overall, I have every reason to believe that this is going to have me in great condition in no time and will progress with me for a long time.

I am sorry I waited so long to purchase

I was having lower back problems. Basic exercises & stretching just wasen't making it. I had reviewed the total gym earlier but put of purchase for numerous reasons. I waited to long. One week after purchase, and starting to follow the suggested exercises for lower back provide with the Total gym, I real great. Strengthning of the mucseles has prevented surgery for now. Thanks for a great product.

Easy to be consistent

I have used the total gym daily for about two months. I have used only the beginning video thus far and yet I have returned to the strength and stamina I had five years ago when I took day-long hikes in rugged terrain. I can hike three to five miles easily in the Arizona heat in Septmember, with energy and strength to spare when my tolerance for the heat is used up. My husband sees a difference in my body shape--pretty good for a post menopausal 65-year-old woman. The unit is fairly heavy for a woman, so I keep it propped against the bedroom wall (covered with a neutral coverlet) where it is easy for me to roll across the carpet and into place in front of our flat screen tv monitor. Storing it someplace like the garage might be a disincentive to daily use. This was a retirement gift to myself, and I am happy I made the choice. I rise in the morning and dress in my workout clothes. I do not allow myself to dress for the street until after my routine. When travelling or having guests, I give myself the day off. The hiking and activities of the day usually compensate and provide a change of pace. I may have lost a couple pounds and by this time next year I expect to have lost about 20, but at this point in life especially my greater intention is healthful aging and independence. Move it or lose it, and the Total Gym helps me move it! The only downside is that the glide board knocks on something underneath when I do the squats, and I cannot figure out what it is. Scootching down to the very bottom of the glide board seems to help because the bench does not need to go all the way down, but I am concerned that this affects the longevity of a machine I intend to use for about 20 or 30 more years.
