The Total Gym is no Joke!

I want you to know that the Total Gym XLS is the best single piece of gym equipment I've ever worked out on. Knowing that, I'll start out with the only negative thing I could think of, which has to do with the wing attachment. The wing attatchment frame is wider than the Total Gym Rails, and is attached with two pins, which make it vulnerable to rocking. Because of the rocking, the Total Gym eningeers glued a piece of plastic inside the wing attachment frame where the pins go in to prevent metal on metal damage between the attachment and the rails. The problem is the glue/adhesive they used to secure the plastic in place is not strong enough to keep the plastic from slipping out of place, so the rails get slightly marred anyways. This is my only complaint. I use the Total Gym XLS every other day, which gives my muscles a chance to recover and grow. I simply walk for 30-60 minutes every day besides that. I am 5'7", with a starting weight of 263. I have a very muscular frame, but was definitely overweight. The Total Gym XLS frame EASILY supports my weight. Combined with diet and the Total gym, I have already lost 14 pounds in the first 3 weeks. I started out on Level 2 and now can complete 25 reps on level 4. I found the absolute BEST way to use the Total Gym is the do the "Starter Workout Program", and add the following two ideas. Instead of doing 1 set of 12-15 reps, I do two or three sets, which really increases the amount of fat burning time and the overall strength training of the program. The second idea is to do each and every exercise on the Starter Program to failure, instead of 12-15 reps. This helps build endurance. The diet I would recommend based on natural atheletes with 6-8% bodyfat around the world It is a high protein diet which is moderateley low carb, and only old fashioned oatmeal, sweet potatoes, any green vegetables, and brown rice are allowed as your additions to protein. You are aiming for 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. You must eat 6-8 times per day without increasing your caloric intake. You must drink 1 gallon of water throughout the day. This will allow you to lose fat, and not muscle when you drop weight, and you should expect about a two pound per week loss.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, Comfortable, Sturdy, Strengthens, Quiet Operation, Easy Storage

I love this product. It has met all of my expectations. I have some overuse injuries in my shoulders, neck, and knees, from Iraq and this machine allows me to perform the exercises I need to strengthen these areas. The best thing about the way the machine is structured is that it provides you with support, that you can't get with free weights and most circuit training exercise machines. I'm thankful that someone has invented an alternative type of equipment for those of us who need to workout, but are limited with arthritis or some other limitation, such as excessive weight gain or both.

Overall I'd have to say it's a good machine. Especially for those with limited room or in "not so good" shape or even those on rehab. The ease with which you can go from one exercise to another is a definite plus. I'm not working out on it as much as I should (life happens.) but if you're serious about at least ATTEMPTING to exercise, then I'd recommend this machine. If, on the other hand, you're wanting to lose weight and maybe bring your endurance up, then I'd have to recommend this machine again. And as a rehab machine...I can only say that I wish I had one of these back when I first lost my leg and needed it. There are so many exercises that you can pretty much create your own routine and the machine is so easy to use that after you've finished...you feel great! Sore, but great :)m I loved the first one I ordered so much I gave it to my mom and got another one :)
Pros: Strengthens, Easy Storage, Comfortable, Quiet Operation, Sturdy, Easy To Use
Cons: Bulky

I use it to build strength and flexibility as well as weight control. The Total Gym, coupled with my outdoor walking regimine, is a great and complete excercise program. I still have a ways to go, though... want to lose 80 lbs.

I like the product and it is nice to have the convenience of in home. My draw back is arthritic joints. I spoke to the sales person (who said he is a personal trainer) and he told me this machine would be fine. It is not working well with my arthritis. I would love to continue using the product but don't feel that i have the support that I need.
Pros: Quiet Operation, Sturdy, Easy To Use
Cons: Bulky, Hard To Set Up
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
