I currently lift weights and ride road bicycles to stay in shape. I was a competitive power-lifter, amateur bodybuilder, Cat 3 bike racer and done a host of all different competitive sports until I needed both my shoulders repaired with staples and pins. I lost a lot of strength and mobility for many years. I have used free-weights and the Bowflex for a few years and never regained much of the later. But, My wife decided she would like to try the Total-gym. I said it probably would work well for you. We received our gym and easily set it up and began using it with-in 20 minutes. My wife found it very easy to use, safe and effective. On the other hand, I found the gym to be the BOMB. Like I said, I have used and done almost every type of training out there but found the Total-gym to "hit" and "stretch" and "strengthen" areas of my body that needed these adjectives that I couldn't get with other machines or exercises. Currently, my shoulders are stronger and more flexible than before. Having fitter shoulders help me ride my road bike farther and faster without fatiguing. I truly believe in owning and using the Total-gym. The only problem I have with using this product is it can wear you out quickly. But this is a good thing.

Easy to use but could be more user friendly. 1) develop a foot plate which is taller so feet can be positioned up/out more for better alignment and less stress on the patella femoral joints when squatting (Plate is too small from top to bottom). 2) develop a stop for the seat so a person can safely get on and off the seat without it having to be positioned all the way at the bottom.
Pros: Sturdy
Cons: Needs taller foot plate, Needs seat adjustment

Well it took a while to set it up and it is pretty heavy, but once I got on it was pretty smooth however its definitely not built for taller people. I wasnt very comfortable at all and have to constantly shift my body to get in a manageable position. Im guessing if youre 6ft and under you wont have that problem. Stores away nicely but dont be fooled by the commercials you have to put a little umph into it I weighs quite a bit! You know how I know? My wife hasnt tried to move it yet and she always tries to move my stuff around
Pros: Quiet Operation, Easy To Use, Easy Storage, Sturdy
Cons: Uncomfortable

I use the gym frequently and I enjoy the product but feel it is a little on the expensive side for the limitations it has with leg exercises. I like that it can be used by the whole family and I am satisfied with the product overall. It would be a superior product if it had more resistance for legs.
Pros: Easy Storage, Easy To Set Up
Cons: Legs too easy

I have been doing the 6-8 minute workouts and really enjoy being able to see results. I have been using the video and my biggest complaint is that the instructors move way too fast. They'll say to set up the gym a certain way and get into position and I can't do it fast enough to keep up with them, so I have to keep stopping the video. My husband felt so frustrated with this that he isn't using the gym anymore. I've gotten around it, but it's still frustrating to try to keep pace with the instructor. We are both in relatively good physical shape, so I wonder if anyone else has experienced this? I intend to continue using my Total Gym.

Total Gym XLS

I recently purchased the XLS for Christmas. I orginially had problems with the inner rubber gasket on the wing attachment coming loose and was sent a replacement immediately. I then had problems with the squat stand popping like I was standing on bubble wrap. After several weeks the glide board started rubbing on the end of the bolt that joins the two rails. I finally requested a new unit which was sent out immediatley. The replacement unit works fine with none of the problems experienced with the first unit. All manufacuturers have problems from time to time. Total Gym's customer service team handled my issues promptly and professionally. I am totally satisfied with my new gym.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy Storage, Comfortable, Easy To Use
Cons: Noisy Operation
