[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this, this month. So far it is very easy to use. It is disappointing that you can only use the online app versions of Microsoft office for Chromebooks and I wish I had known that when purchasing. There isn't much online help for sales, so it wasn't easy to be able to ask questions. Hopefully that changes in the future as it seems silly to be limited to the online versions (which are kinda awful).

I bought the Acer Gaming Chromebook to replace a faltering laptop that I was using for work - mainly editing Google Docs, and using other G-Suite tools like email, messages, and meet. This Chromebook totally excels at all those tasks. The resolution of the built in screen is excellent. It also has an HDMI port for connecting a second monitor which can function either as an extended desktop, or mirror what's on the display. I also like that there's a built in ethernet port - though the wifi connectivity works very well. An excellent computer for the price.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was the third purchase of a Chromebook I've made in the past 7 years. The first wasn't anything worth discussing. It was an HP and it did what it could do when it came to workload and gaming?! What was that? Next was the first Chromebook Plus model that an HP as well. The x360 14c. That was a premium Chromebook model with metal and glass top half and a weird and very dense plastic back panel on the underside of the keyboard and an aluminum keyboard to side. It felt good and its weight told you it was a premium machine. It only became a Plus model because of its specs after Google announced the base specs that Chromebooks had to meet to be labeled a Plus model. The aluminum top with the HP logo on it only had Chromebook on it. The same model that was produced after 2023 all came Plus after the Chromebook on the top.
I saw the Acer 516 GE Chromebook Plus in the summer of 2024 when it was released. It has the 14th generation Intel Core 5 CPU which was two generations newer than my current HP with its 12th generation Intel Core i3. The Acer also comes with massive 16" display that has a 120hz refresh rate and a native resolution of 1440p. It's an amazing machine that's use an all metal construction and looks that just as good as it performs. With a 512GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM it's a blazing fast laptop that game like a purpose built $2500.00 + gaming specific laptop. I love the two tone top with the "holographic " looking Acer name and the brushed aluminum grey majority of the surface topped by a classy black strip with the name and Chromebook Plus designation on it. Nothing on this machine feels cheap or substandard like a lot of Chromebooks of yesteryear. It has more posts than I know what do with. Those include USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports with Display Port 1.4 a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 as well a USB A port for accessories and it has a full-size HDMI 2.1!! It's a fantastic set up that looks even better on my smart TV when I play my favorite games on GeForce Now. The webcam is great and has features that only Google would build into the software for its camera suite. The keyboard is an incredible RGB coloured (or plain backlit if you choose) that's got the perfect key travel and is a joy to type on. I love the glass track pad as well. It's even got a light ring around it. The whole thing screams premium. If you're looking for a bargain on a laptop and have never thought Chromebooks could possibly keep up in a work environment or to heavy multitasking day in and day out think again and look at this model. At less than half of its original price you can't pass it up! Oh, and the DTS sound that it has built in turns the little side mount, up firing speakers from tin cans to legit speakers that sound almost immersive and omni directional (they are still little speakers though). I could going about this machine but this review is getting a bit long winded... The last thing I want to mention is how fast Google's Gemini AI is on this device. It's blazing fast and you get free 12 month Pro subscription with purchase.
