Nice product for in home VR/MR. The head strap that comes with it is terrible but plenty of aftermarket ones are available. All in all I’m pleased with my purchase 512gb version. Pricy but so are most electronics gadgets today.

Faster and easier to use than the Quest 2

I loved the Quest 2, but it had it's difficulties. Sometimes booting up takes forever. Sometimes it struggles to setup the boundary. Getting the eye pieces just right can take time. These issues all seem to be solved in Quest 3. From turning them on to playing a game takes less than a minute. Boundary creation is automatic. And I love the AR functionality! I did break something by taking off the eye guard that rattled around for a few days, but eventually it stopped making noise and nothing functional seems affected.

I've heard good things but I feel that I wasted my money. I have a quest 2 and after buying the Quest 3, I didn't feel that this was worth the upgrade. People say the graphics for some games are better but it looks the same to me.
I like that it is a lighter headset but there is still no counter-ballance for all of the weight still being in the front. I ordered a third-party strap with batter to try an fix this. It hasn't come in yet.
The bottom line is that I think those who have a quest 2 should wait for a quest 4. Given this experience, I'm not likely going to upgrade to the 4 but probably skip every other series, 5,7,9....
For those that don't have a quest at all, they might as well go with the quest 3.

Meow's Quest3 review

Quest 3 is amazing for wireless PCVR thanks to Airlink. Games look amazing and depending on the game I can get really immersed! I just wish it had a better battery.. The controllers last longer than the headset. I get barely an hour out of it. It's nice to use outside of gaming as well with viewing my desktop on it to browse websites or watch twitch streams. It's just so much nicer watching videos on it. If I don't want to turn on the PC I can just use it as standalone as well. I love that I can watch youtube and netflix on it. I hope other streaming platforms will be added eventually. Comfort is sadly very poor with the headset. For the price you would expect it to come with a better strap. I suppose the default strap does make it easier to lay down in bed to watch movies but still. I know it varies but my Q3 had a little mura(dirtylens effect) on the right lens. I got used to it after awhile but once in awhile it does annoy me. Audio is decent and I can hear everything fine with it. The Microphone however could be slightly better. Mine isn't terrible compared to some others I've heard but it's not that good either sadly. I don't have much experience with the mixed reality side but I did play first encounters. It may just be my lights I guess but there is some fuzz when viewing passthrough, it wasn't as annoying when playing the mixed reality game and that may of been because images being placed over my room and monsters attacking me. It's cool when you are playing a game but when you are just viewing your room outside of a game then you have no choice but to lift the headset to see your phone or anything clearly. Overall I am happy for my first wireless VR Headset. I look forward to using it for longer and more often once better battery solutions come out for it.

Huge leap forward

It’s a gigantic improvement from the Quests 2. Much lighter, more responsive, and the passthrough is crazy good now. The only major issue I’ve had is an issue I’ve had before; the battery dying even after I’ve turned the device off. I have the elite battery head strap and both die while the device is off. I’ve resorted to unplugging external battery before turning off. I’m playing with settings, thinking maybe auto wake drains it… strange from a complete shutdown state though. Other than that looking forward to AC Nexus!

Improvement over quest 2 in all areas but comfort
on November 13, 2023

Despite the improvements in other areas (lenses, chipset, form factor) I find the comfort of the Quest 3 to be a small step back from Quest 2 due to the lack of a "custom fit pack".
The quest 2 released an optional accessory pack that included 3 foam facial interfaces to accommodate different head shapes (narrow/standard/wide), and full light blocker eye-cup accessories that extended the plastic around the lenses so that they make contact with the bridge of the user's nose, blocking any light from the nose gap of the HMD. When using these accessories, the weight of the quest 2 was distributed nicely across the forehead, temples, and also to the bridge of the nose, resulting in a snug fit that does not wobble when rotating the head. With only the Quest 3 stock facial interface, I find that with my head shape the weight is all concentrated on the forehead area of the pad and the HMD wobbles similarly to the Quest Pro (which has only a forehead pad) when rotating my head.
I would love to see Meta release a similar "custom fit pack" for the quest 3 as was released for the quest 2.

The hardware itself is great. MR is impressive.

What’s lacking really is the software. Why is there no global resolution and frame rate slider? why can’t I delete demos or rearrange and organize my games how I see fit. So far, I feel no game truly takes advantage of the hardware. Maybe red matter, but that’s about it. Where is that Saints and sinners update? Also, Resident evil 4 causes the Quest 3 to overheat and malfunction if downloading anything while playing. Also downloading in the background while playing drains the battery way too fast. Downloading in the background should be made disabled while playing just to alleviate the overheating, but that’s not possible. I want to like this device, and I do believe it has potential to grow into something better. I just would’ve thought that a software company would’ve gotten the software aspect right.

Love the mixed reality. Lot clearer graphics. Thumbs up from me.
